These cars, trucks, bikes, big rigs, and buses by Tomy Tech (or Tomy Tec) look perfect for Car Wars Classic.

Has anyone tried any of them?

It seems like there would be enough give to glue them to a standard counter sized piece for use with the turning key.

Never heard of then until today. Looks like a neat idea.

Looks like there are a ton of N Scale model rail road vehicles out there.

Here is a less detailed pack of 100 cars (for parking lots) for around $12 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VXE8WK?tag=article-boar...

Repaint them, use some thin cardboard for armor, body mods, and spoilers and paper clips for gun barrels and they might just help give that little (ok, tiny) bit of dimensionality without having to change the scale of the original game.

There are a lot of different styles out there as well, so you should be able to find a vehicle that works.

If N scale is too big, the Z Scale has similar sets:

I use micro machines (roughly 1/150) and they look great!

I feel like everyone might be onto the micro machines though as the ebay lots sell like crazy, and prices are pretty steep for singles

Back in the day, we used Z scale for the original scale. We also had a presentation using 1/24 scale cars, that looked pretty awesome.
