The great tale of The Xxcha Kingdoms rise to power
The oldest of all the Great Races of the Imperium, the Xxcha Kingdom predates even the Lazax. Renowned for their wisdom and skill as diplomats, the Xxcha saw the growing threat to the Imperium, but could not convince the Lazax of the true scope of discontent. They could only watch sadly as the Quann conflict erupted into full-scale war.

The peaceful Xxcha were the only Race that did not attempt the path of conquest during the Dusk Wars, and were caught unprepared when the Letnev struck at Archon Tau. After the Letnev suffered a series of defeats, the Xxcha were able to enlist the aid of the Sol Federation in ending the Barony’s occupation of Archon Tau. Unfortunately, the conflict lasted two years and in the end Archon Tau was a barren shadow of its former self. The Xxcha vowed to never be conquered again, and their king knows that the Xxcha must become the aggressors. Unlike the other Races, the Xxcha go to war not for glory, but for the ultimate good of all.

Fittingly the players were: Federation of Sol to my right, Clan of Saar left, and Barony on other side of the table.

The first turn the younger races go forth and conquer many of their neighboring planets. Although the native were mostly hostile and the conquest came at a great cost for many. The Xxcha know that it is wiser to move slowly and therefore only took 2 planets by invasion. The inhabitant were exultant that they were welcomed into the great kingdom and supplied the xxcha people with 2 tradegoods. The Xxcha diplomats also convinced a neighboring planet that it would be wise to join the kingdom.

At the end of turn the younger races had rushed on and scored points (Saar 2, Sol 1 and Barony 1), while the kingdom took it´s time.

Turn two began the wise ruler of the Xxcha people decided it was time to make a daring move. It was time to liberate the poor people of Mecatol Rex. In a daring move an invasion was instigated, and the invasion was a great success. The Kingdome were jubilant and welcomed the new system into its fold. The 4 ground forces on the planet deterred the younger races to intervene. To further their clam they moved one of their spacedocks with the help of a massive transport to Mecatol. On the same turn the Xxcha managed to “liberate” the Rigel system. But it was a tense moment since the first planet decided to resist the invasion with one fighter and the Xxcha only had one carrier, but as all would learn: resistance is futile. At the end of turn the Xxcha claimed 1 public objective. (Sol 1p, Barony 1p, Saar 2p)

Turn three were the great moment for the Xxcha. In a great political move they managed to convince the senate that it was unfair that not everyone had the same amount of points (I had 23 votes by myself, the others had combined 25 ). So Sol, the Barony and Xxcha all got 1 point and tied with The clan of Saar. The Kingdom then moved additional troops to Mecatol to bolster their number to 6, which incidentally were the number needed to accomplish their secret objective. They also decided to show the galaxy that The Xxcha Kingdom were no pushover and invaded one of Clan of Saars planets (this was to be able to complete one of the public objectives).

This glorious round Xxcha scored 3 points at the end of turn, total 5 points and a two point lead over the other races.

Turn four, the younger races had a secret meeting were it were decided that the Xxcha must be punished. Although the Barony were not that motivated to get involved in the fight that were brewing on the other side of the galaxy. What they did not count on were that the Kingdom of Xxcha had a great network of spies that support their claim and word of this unholy alliance reached the ear of the king. He decided to make Mecatol Rex and the Home system into impregnable fortresses and to abandon the other colonies. The way towards victory no longer lay in warfare but in the technology of the Xxcha people (there were two public objectives on technology). The Xxcha also caught a lucky break when The federation of Sol choose the new public objective to be “I control Mecatol rex”. The Xxcha fleet in the system had been destroyed but the planet were still in the hands of the Kingdom.

So at the end of turn Xxcha scored one other point, for a total of 6.

Turn five, the noose around the Xxcha kingdom continued to tighten and the colonies fell one after another. Once again the Xxcha caught a lucky break when they got to decide the public objective and found the objective to have more influence than your neighbors. Before the losses of the planets became too bad the Xxcha manage to score the objective. The activation after Sol invades and enslaves the people of Mecatol Rex. The Xxcha domain now consists of their home system and two colonies outside. It is looking grim. But the King steels his people for the coming battle and continues to strengthening the defenses of the home worlds.

At the end of turn the Xxcha scores 1 of the technology objectives and gains a total of 8 points. All they need is one red tech to be able to score the last objective, and to hold on the home planets. But it is looking grim. The economy is in shatters and the main fleets of all other players are circling the Kingdoms home system.

Turn 6. Since the unholy alliance have to block the Xxcha from getting both bureaucracy, and diplomacy they are forces to give them leadership, which will allow the xxcha to strengthen the defense further and try and stall since the alliance and low on tokens. In a lucky break, the Xxcha claim the trade strategy so that they can get the needed resources to claim one last technology.

The last turn is a gauntlet for the Xxcha with a constant barrage of attacks. Sol go in first and destroy all the fighters. The Barony follows and destroy the last remnants of the Xxcha fleet. But only have 4 ground forces against the hoard that is Xxcha kingdoms. The last is the most dangerous when The clan of Saar swoops in an tries to take the capitol. It is a hard fight (10 Saar vs 13 Xxcha), and the kingdom looks doomed when Saar gets 4 out 5 hits on the first shot (we only have 5 dice, second roll were kinder and I think the total were 6 hits at the end), despite the -1 to hit. But the Xxcha rise up and fight back. Losses mount up on both sides but in the end the Xxcha stands triumphant. The gauntlet is over, the greater good have won.

Just to spite Sol and The barony The Xxcha kingdoms score first and win so neither player gets to score their secret objective that they just completed.

Peace once again rules the galaxy

Great session report. That was fun to read - your writing carries the style of Xxcha diplomats exactly as I imagined.
