Has anyone tried to apply an iteration of the solo or cooperative rules from the expansion to the base game?

Any thoughts on how (or even *if*) this would work?

Not unless they are bootlegging them without our consent.

Sorry. Didn't make it clear. I was referring to the cooperative rules from "Champions and Masterminds".

Has anyone applied the co-op rules from Champions and Masterminds to the base game?

Champions & Masterminds is technically an expansion, so I assume they're referring to that.

Sounds like we need some heroes to bust up their operation.

So [ahem], just to be clear then, no one has tried using the "Champions and Masterminds" rules with the base game components?

No. There would be no challenge playing the base game as a co-op. The villain A and B cards are designed to be defeated, since the goal of the game is Fame (victory points) and not defeating the villain.

For a co-op to be interesting, there needs to be a high chance for the players to lose collectively. Contents of The Champions & Masterminds expansion does exactly this. Without it, you would have to make significant changes to the rules to make it worth playing this way (increasing the damage dealt by the villain, starting hit points, adding alternate lose conditions, etc.). However, I feel if you really want to play co-op, you should just get one or both of the Champions & Masterminds expansions.

I think an semi-easy solution for co-op is to use the solo rules, except give the villain 30 HP per player. Just keep track of your score as a team. For headlines, just use them for a timer on getting your bonus card and other perks instead of points at the end of the game. If the Villain escapes, you all lose. If you draw A and B cards that are more pvp inclined to begin the game, discard them and draw another.
