According to the dictionary it should be pronounced "kär-kä-'son".

In other words: car - cah - sohn' with the emphasis on the last syllable, although I often hear people put the emphasis on the first syllable.

It's been up before and there are lots of different claims to finer points of the correct pronunciation.

You can hear it spoken (by an American?) on the following site:

Is anybody else sick of hearing people say 'Cork-a-zone'? Where do they get "Cork" from? Aargh! It's nearly as bad as the Warhammer players that can't pronounce the names of any of their units. When they say their 're-TIN-yoo' of figures is going to move across the table I want to walk over and smash all their miniatures.

laugh

I was at a con once where the announcer called HeroScape for HeroSpace. Everyone was laughing and booing and he was clueless.

I pronounce Carcassonne as Coor-kah-zoonie.

Never fails to p**s off the fellow gamer who majors in French devil.

If you hear a native French speaker, its Sohn as in Song with a silent 'g' (takes a little practice).
