I know that certain people occassionally post some very interesting statistics that they have compiled from BGG. I'm doubting they go collect all of these manually, so I am guessing they either write a script or know where to query the database directly.
Can anyone who compiles these stats provide some insight as to how to do so? If you write scripts, a small sample would be really great to see.

Thanks for any info!

I have direct database access and use it for many of the stats I compile.

Others use the XML API, the BGG XML Snapshot (new), collection export or screen scraping.
