A friend of mine just sent me this link. Not sure if this has been posted in one of the numerous gaming table threads, but check this guy out:

http://www.dbfletcher.com/files/dbfletcher_capstan_both.mp4

I'm afraid to find out the price... but I know if I got one I'd hook up some internal lights that glow during the pivot process just because it'd look cool.

enjoy!

Is there anything about these tables that requires they be on yachts?

Besides the cost?

Man, I seriously stared in awe at that table for a good minute--the video ended and I was still reveling in its awesomeness. Unfortunately, that table would never fit in my house. Or my wallet.

As cool as those tables are, I'd need to it to change on its own and make the cool "zch-zch-zch-zch-zch" sound the Transformers made when transforming. Personal preference.

That reminds me of this table I saw at a local furniture store. It's not a "normal" furniture store, it's a Danish furniture store, and they have lots of neat European stuff that I can't afford.

But my wife and I were in there, and we were hyperventilating at the $12,000 price tags of the sectional sofas, and the salesman says, "Have you seen the table?"

With glee, he shows us this circular dining room table that seats four, but out of the middle of the table pops a three-bladed leaf, which increases the diameter and the surface area of the table, so that it now seats eight.

It was very cool, and was "only" $6,000.

The expanding yacht tables are very cool, but honestly I like something with a more variable size. A variety of shapes/sizes of folding tables and a lot of good plywood cut into different lengths is just as effective, although not nearly as cool.

They get bolted through the floor. It can't just be attached to a standard floor in a house or a basement. It has to be built into the 'decking'. Which very few houses have...

It's a cool idea, but I can't help thinking about all the sensitive 'bits' that could get pinched in all those moving parts. I get a blister just thinking about it.
