For weeks, I have been expecting to have a slow week, and last week it finally happened.
On Thursday, my girlfriend and I played a long, nerve-wracking game of Twilight Struggle. In the end I won on the first Late-war turn because I was 12 points ahead and got Wargames. We hadn't reached Late war before, so both didn't know that card is in the deck, so it felt a little disappointing to win like that. But now that we know it's there, there WILL be paranoia in Late war We didn't know because we want to explore the game together before reading up on it online. Just more fun that way
On Friday, we had a befriended couple over. First we played Sushi Go!, where my GF won with 51 to my 50 points! Then a game of Ticket to Ride: Europe, which I won by landslide myself
It seems my plan to extend an olive branch to my wife and the in-laws and learn their customary past time in hopes of returning the favor and playing Dominion have failed. I fear I may have been pigeon holed into "He can play cribbage now"...and there is no escape.
A stack of games remains unplayed for some time...
(seriously, the level at which they play Cribbage yet throw their hands up in confusion and stubbornness towards "my games" is baffling! Whats a Knob, and why do you get a point just because oh look a Jack!?)
Not surprisingly, Jaipur has been a hit with my SO and I. Less exciting is that Hive hasn't taken off nearly as well, which we bought at the same time. But I suppose you can't win them all.
The "outside the scope" game is a prototype I've been working on. The play was a success, so it's an excellent start. And Citadels is a great little game. It works really well at our weekly outings. I'll be happy to play it more and may look to purchase it eventually.
I expected that I would like Forbidden Stars, but man what a wonderful game. We played 3 player games with the same three and the same factions. I expect we are just tapping into the strategy of this game. We have another game scheduled this week.
Terra Mystica was as great as always, three players, very tight game.
Troyes, three players with one new player. This has always been one of the best games in my collection. Very tight game, score was 50, 44, 37 so it was tight and we were not sure of the winner until the very end.
Ghost Stories, well its Ghost Stories. Lost horrible, though we only play on insane mode at this point. Good week for sure.
