Here are a couple of my geek lists:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/17403
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/10315

Of course the 1yo is going to be tough to get a game for.

I'd recommend Tier auf Tier, Nobody But Us Chickens and Gulo Gulo.

I just realized that if this is a woman making this post then I just put my foot in my mouth.blush

Unquestionably. I am a huge fan as are my three (8, 6 and 3). Your young'un will be able to play this (or at least pick the eggs out) earlier than they would be able to play pretty much any other game meaningfully. It works well as a light adult game as well so I would have no worries about the older ones feeling they are too old for it.

Break the Safe (cooperative), Viva Topo (push your luck), Mago Magino (a little of each!), Schildkroetenrennen (hidden identities racing game), and Ingenious (domino-like) are some other possibilities -- don't know what's available/affordable where you are.

And I second Spooky Stairs.

Here are some my daughters (10 and 7) have enjoyed. I also have a 2 year old, but she most enjoys throwing the bits on the floor and laughing hysterically, so I won't include those.

Batik This is quick and enjoyable

Blink Also quick and you can handicap yourself by giving yourself more cards

Chicken Cha Cha Cha This is a memory type game, but about the same price (here in Canada) as Gulo Gulo, so you might try
Sherlock instead. It's also a memory game

The Downfall of Pompeii This one is a favourite at our house. My eldest really enjoys it. Can be played with 2 - 4.

You're Bluffing! I was surprised they liked this one.

Ticket to Ride Everyone seems to like this as a family game.

Animal Upon Animal Another fun game the kids like

YINSH My eldest says this is her current favourite game.

Of the ones mentioned, they seem to like
Break the Safe
Ribbit I really like this one as well
Ingenious This also seems to be a favourite family game
Gulo Gulo

Hi!

My 4 year old boy got Gulo Gulo for his birthday. He LOVES it! He plays it with his cousins (6 and 3.5) and even his little brother can play who's 2.5.

This is a fun game where the little ones tend to do better than the adults!

I also reccommend Hiss - which is a fun one for the younger kids about placing tiles to build snakes and

Go Away Monster - my boys go nuts at this game! It's a turn-taking cooperative game where you get to yell "GO AWAY, MONSTER!" when a monster tile is drawn from the bag. Lots of fun.

Ya can't go wrong with Dominos - there are a few good ones out there like Chicken Coop Dominos or the Mexican Train Game Dominos.

The boys also like Kids Settlers of Catan, Ba Ba Black Sleep and The Adopt a Puppy game from Fisher Price.

Good luck!

Bob

My 4 year old daughter likes:

Through the Desert
Hey that's my Fish!
Cluzzle (of course she can't read, so she just thinks in her head what she wants to sculpt)

These are great games for families, I think...

My 3 y.o. daughter likes Zitternix (aka Keep it Steady), Batik Kid, Blokus (though Blokus is more just making pretty shapes), Slamwich and Chicken Cha-Cha-Cha (in it's Dragontales incarnation.) She also like the classics, Memory, Go Fish and UNO.

I'd put a word in for Walk the Dogs. You have to buy it through a SimplyFun sales person (it's a home business) rather than in a store. My kids (4 & 8) love it! That and Wildfire (a domino's game with a twist) are probably their two favorite "kids" games.

Good luck,
Rob

My two daughters (8 and 5) love Walk the Dogs. It's available from online resellers in the UK now so you don't have to go through the US resellers. I don't know about Oz though.
