Interesting article posted about this book on Reuters:

I was mildly interested until I read this line in the description: "Silicon Valley billionaires mobilize for cyber-war..."

Riiiight. Like those self-serving money grubbers are going to do anything that doesn't earn them millions in profits. whistle

That description alone almost put me to sleep! I'm getting flashbacks of boredom and awful characters.

To be honest, the concept sounds really good. It actually sounds like an anti-Clancy book. It is critical of trends and presents something the opposite of the official truth of military trends.

There are a lot of critics of the modern computer reliant weaponary. War is boring slams the f35 int the ground for its high costs and what is seen as a weak return. The thing is that it has been a while since two large modern countries went to war. Its all conjecture t this time. I dont think we shouyld bash the modern weapons as much as the authors of this book apear to do. Hacking the software of a plane is not easy, let alone a modern war plane. Just my 2 pence

The Chinese invade Oahu? The Japanese would have had a walk in the park in 1942 in comparison. U.S. nuclear attack submarines would rip any Chinese fleet to shreds long before it ever got anywhere near Guam, let alone Oahu!

When the operational premise is demonstrably broken, it can only be hoped that the insight on future weapons sytems and tactics can make up for the deficiency.
