A colleague of mine is looking for some new games. He plays a lot of chess and Monopoly with his sons and wife. What would people with kids of this age recommend?

I mentioned Agricola and he said it sounded great so he would want something along those lines. I think the family version of gric would work great?

There's no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and yeah the human tragedy consists of the necessity of living with the consequences, under pressure, under pressure. -Courage (For Hugh Maclennan): The Tragically Hip

Not nearly so complex, but I play Labyrinth, Win, Lose, or Banana, Kalah, Forbidden Island, and Castle Panic with my kids.

One of my favorite 4 player games is 1775: Rebellion, it might be a little tough for an 8 year old, but has the advantage of being a team game, so he could get some help (plus what boys don't like playing on a team against their parents). It also has a great historical theme.

King of Tokyo I think would be perfect for young boys.

The upcoming Flick 'em Up!.

Escape: The Curse of the Temple

I have played this game with my nephews (ages 11, 9, 6) and they all loved it.
