Just a friendly reminder - please don't modify your contest files at this point in time. The submission deadline has passed and it isn't fair to the other contestants.

Thank you.

Hey guys,
This microbadge got approved.

In my rookie-ness, I didn't get it set up correctly so it would be free to all participants, so it costs the usual 8 GG, sorry.

If you want the microbadge, and are one of the contest participants and don't have the GG, let me know and I will send you the 8 GG needed.

Most goes to the BGG bank, I guess. I get 0.25 GG for each purchased. I'll use that to help out anyone that needs it, or if not, I'll donate it to this contest. My intent was NOT to make GG off this.

Badges that are awarded for free generally have to be cleared for creation ahead of time - because they have to be handed out by admins, and aren't just "free" in the sense that anyone can apply to get them. The process for awarded badges is slightly different than if you make a badge for sale. And I can't think of any badges that have been changed to be awarded after having started as purchasable (though my knowledge only stretches a few years, and not back to when the site started).

The most I've seen is that you can request the badge be set not to you, so you wouldn't get the .25 proceeds from it...

As Scott offered, I would be happy to send 8GG to anyone looking for the badge he created. Thanks again for doing that Scott.

Alright - 1 week to go until the voting deadline (11/30). We've had a pretty good number of voters so far but I would encourage others to check out the games and vote if you have the time. Thanks again all!

Well, the mint tin design contest was a learning experience for me, and designing a microbadge was a learning experience for me.blush For 2016, I'll get it right (I hope), and the microbadges will be free to contestants.

Looking forward to seeing how my own votes match up with the official voting in the contest. It's been a great experience for a new designer like me.

I've started to tally up the numbers but I won't post the final results until the voting period is closer. It's a very tight race so far so make sure you vote if you haven't had a chance yet.

I didn't vote for my entry in any categories. I won't keep any GG if I happen to win anything either - the GG will go to the next place finishers if that ends up happening.

I will try to see if I can make the voting results public too afterwards. If If I can't figure it out, I'll send out a spreadsheet to anyone who wants to look at the numbers.

Thanks again to everyone who has participated so far! It's been a fun contest.

Guest Judge - Top 3 Designs

d10-3 Iron Infantry - 40 bag

Chris Hansen, host of the annual Solitaire Print and Play Contest and well-respected member of the design, PNP, and contest community here on BGG, graciously accepted the role of guest judge this year. Thanks Chris! Here are a few comments from Chris on his top 3.

#1 The Great microGame - I never would have thought you could fit a CDG into such a small package and have it work but Gary has done an absolutely amazing job. The game is playable, challenging, and fun. It doesn't have great reply value as an individual game but I think the potential for using the system for other battles is tremendous.

#2 MintWorks - I love this simple worker placement game and I think the idea of using mints as actual game pieces. The rules are simple so people can start playing very quickly. The game's a lot of fun too.

#3 Iron Infantry - This is a simple wargame but it works very well. The game almost has an oldschool Avalon Hill feel. The graphic design works great and makes it a very visually appealing wargame.

GeekGold Payouts
Mint Works - 255 bag
Galva - 215 bag
Tiny Tin Titan - 200 bag
The Great MicroGame - 200 bag
Folded - 100 bag
Kill or Be Killed - 100 bag
Minimum Burn - 40 bag
The Briefcase - 40 bag
Iron Infantry - 40 bag
Plundering Pluto - 15 bag
Total Payout: 1205 bag

Congratulations to all the participants! I will distribute the GeekGold prizes shortly.

I'd like to thank everyone who entered a game, played a game, voted, or just contributed to the contest thread. You've made this contest a success and a lot of fun. I have enjoyed hosting this contest and hope to run another contest sometime next year. I hope to see all of you back!

A special thanks goes out to Ethan Ham and his class. Thanks for joining us and I hope you all learned something in the process while having fun!

Thanks R4D6 for running a fantastic contest. As a newbie game designer, this contest was perfect for me.

For my level of skill, I am thrilled that my game "Iron Infantry" placed sort of high for "best written rules". I am proud of my effort of conveying the rules concisely (along with the playing pieces) all on 1 sheet of paper.

And, thank you, thank you, thank you Chris Hansen for your very kind words on the game as well.

I'm now trying to figure out if I should get that whole quote or just part of it tattooed on my forearm.

And a big congrats to all the winners. I didn't play all the games - or even too many of the games, but as far as I can tell, the voters got it right.

Each of these games is awesome in at least one way, and they each give me something to shoot for in my future designs (plus many of the other games, but I think these would be my top 5 as well).

Anyway, congrats and thanks everyone.

The pleasure has been mine. It's always fun to see how the games evolve over the course of the contest. I tried to play at least a few of the designs and offer feedback on a bunch. It's always great too to make some new friends - the sense of community here is amazing.

I think contests like this are a great design exercise and a great way to develop your skills as a designer. It's important to not only focus on the game you are working on but to also focus on yourself as a designer.

If anyone wants to see the voting results - just shoot me a private message and I will send you a link.

Thanks again everybody!!
