Battlelore on the table again

Sir Derek the Lucky ventured onto the plains of battle to defend his
ground against the dramatic advances of Sorceress Pat the Mana Screwed
in the first of the Lore scenarios from this excellent game.

The Lucky one, drew Lore early in preparation for his Mass Speed
opening draw and while She of Little Lore foundered in the muck I was
able to respond with a second turn Blue Banners (5 orders) added Lore
in the form of Mass Speed which precipitated (more from the sky later)
a robust advance of seasoned veterans, the resulting rolls did little
to back up the offensive but filled the Lore pot well.

Our Lady of Measly Mana responded with a 3 order play and wreaked havoc
with my ineffectual blues and the battle was well joined! Various
sorties ensued with meager attrition until the Lore pot on the far side
of the table burped up a Creeping Doom with 4 active targets! Hearty
constitutions or the herbal suppositories (only the shaman knows for
sure), the rolls did not serve well so was it a case of bullets or
boils narrowly missed.

The Lucky lad then got on a dice roll! Lots of Lore (and a Fireball on
the rack) saw the inevitable blast of Plasma from the sky. As the
luminous leviathan formed high above and the Wizard ominously chanted
on the hilltop there were shrieks from the far sides of the plains
"Blue, Red, Green!!!!!!" (note her trademark 6!'s). Despite the
harpy-like calls for some reprieve from the unjust Lore gods the dice
and the fireball came down (2 lore on 3 dice) and the mounted Red
Banners were gone! gone!! gone!!! (got my 6 in with style.). A noble
dying gasp from the now disheartened Lore-Light-Lady's troops saw her
capture count rise to 5 (just one from victory) but with my formations
counting at least 2 and with several single figure platoons on her side
the stench of scorched horse hair was still heavy in the air when I
cast Darken the Sky (3 bow troops firing 2x each) and the game was

Victory for the me: great cards, great rolls and dazzling tactics [in
my own mind at least ]

Apologies to Pat for all of the significant oversights in her play.

Derek (the Lucky)
