So, if one adds these trade cards to the original set that comes with Civilization, what effect does it typically have on game play? On game length?

It seems that calamities would not rear their ugly heads as frequently. I'd like to hear your anecdotes on how it changes the experience.

Thanks!

If you add just these to Classic Civ then it will have several effects:

*A lot more randomness in your collection of sets, with the potential points at the table varying considerably turn to turn.
*The incentive to be careful on city numbers is removed (more is always better) and the advantage of Egypt and Babylon is considerably reduced.

It may make the game faster as players are less likely to stall at a change of epoch, especially those with easier tracks. It will also make passing the final points phases easier for most powers but especially those higher on the AST. I would certainly not want to play Egypt or Babylon in any game using these.
