I saw this article and thought it was enlightening. Hillary's favorability rating has barely moved in Iowa and NH while Bernie's has been shooting up.

That indicates to me that Bernie is going to have a heck of a time beating Hillary unless her favorability falls or Bernie's rises to pretty amazing levels. Barring a big mistake by Hillary I just don't see her losing to Bernie.

Huh. Just save the graphic as anything.jpg and then upload it. That's the quick and dirty method. Rookie.

Actually the problem was when I copied the URL for the graphic I didn't trim off the junk at the end, seems I can link to a .png image just fine. Anyway, I added in the graphic to my original post.

Someone should tell dakarp to just switch to a graphics library that also works with pngs. Even in the dark world of PHP, there has to be a way to resize pngs with minimal fuss.

Hillary has been having closed door campaign events, I have tried to get ticket but cant. It seems like every time she speaks her numbers go down as she is just not very likeable at all. I am sure they have noticed that and are going to try and limit her from speaking until she has the nomination locked up. It will be a strange way to campaign if she pulls it off.

You just need to open your wallet up a bit, for a mere $2600 I guarantee you that Hillary will make a seat available to you.

That's his only plus in my eyes. Too bad he does it in a bundle with a bunch of laughably ridiculous shit that makes it just seem like one more kooky idea from everyone's favorite crazy uncle.

Wow, that's a news flash.

In other news, Donald Trump isn't going to be President, either.

He's the crazy uncle of the Democratic party. He's never going to be politically adept enough to survive a national election, plus he's going to be perceived as too old to hold the position. Plus he's so far to the left on basically everything, with no ability that I can see to ever compromise on anything.

I was looking for a little more detail. Like, what has he said that's "crazy"? What policies has he espoused that are "crazy"? Why do you say he has no ability to compromise?

I can't speak for Dave, but Bernie basically convinced me he was out there when he proposed breaking one specific patent that he wanted broken. I'm not sure I want that kind of mindset running the country. Taking actions that generally affect everyone, fine. Taking actions to affect one specific company, not so much. It made me think he's pretty far gone in terms of his ability to govern at a national level. You can't be that completely out of touch with reality. That would probably be the tip of the iceberg if he were president.

I know there are some other things that I think he's psychotic on but I am too tired to go find links for them.

Special interests are alive and well in RSP!

Shouldn't you have taken out your anger on everyone who voted for the law in the first place? It seems sort of weird to have no problem with, "The law gives the administration arbitrary power to do this," but only get mad when someone actually proposes doing it. It would be like flying off the handle at the idea of the President actually commuting sentences.

You mean this?

WSJ wrote:
The ongoing debate over the cost of prescription drugs took another twist as U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT.) has asked the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to use emergency powers to break – or override – the patents on high-priced hepatitis C medicines sold by several drug makers, including Gilead Sciences .

The new hepatitis C treatments cure more than 90% of those infected and, in the U.S., cost from $63,000 to $94,500, depending upon the drug and regimen, before any discounts. Gilead markets Sovaldi and Harvoni, while AbbVie sells Viekera Pak.

The prices have caused a firestorm as both public and private payers complain the treatments are straining their budgets. Sanders notes the VA stopped enrolling veterans who need treatment for hepatitis C due to budget constraints. The agency has already reallocated $400 million on hepatitis C drugs, but needs additional funding.

“I cannot think of another situation where the government-use provision [of the law that allows the VA to break the patents] should be applied,” Sanders wrote in a letter to Robert McDonald, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary. “Our nation’s veterans cannot, and should not, be denied treatment while drug companies rake in billions of dollars in profits.”

We asked Gilead and AbbVie for comment and will update you accordingly.

Sanders, who until recently headed the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, notes the agency has treated about 20,000 vets for hepatitis C and needs fund for an estimated 180,000 more vets who are enrolled in VA health care and are believed to be infected with the chronic disease.

It would be unusual for the federal government to seek to break a patent held by a drug maker. Sanders, though, notes that the George W. Bush Administration persuaded Bayer to cut the price on its Cipro antibiotic in 2001 after letters laced with anthrax were mailed to Capitol Hill and media outlets.

However, Sanders only envisions the maneuver being used to help the VA defray the cost of the drugs. He does not plan to ask other agencies to consider breaking patents, since the VA has already encountered money problems to combat hepatitis C, a congressional aide tells us.

It is not clear whether the VA will consider breaking patents. We asked a VA spokesman about the idea and he did not directly respond, but did say the agency is working with Congress to find ways to address the financial shortfall.

In fact, Sloan Gibson, the VA Deputy Secretary, yesterday wrote a letter to Richard Blumenthal, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, for permission to repurpose another $400 million in its budget for the drugs.

The VA spokesman says the extra funds would be sufficient to treat between 5,000 and 10,000 vets with cirrhosis depending on the treatment and duration required. As a result, up to 4,500 new cases of liver cancer and as many as 900 liver transplants – over time – could be prevented.

I can see not agreeing with the tactic or the government-use law that allows it, but I'm not sure I see why it would be outside the realm of sanity. It appears to be a solution to a specific problem, and not 100% unprecedented.

So really, Sue, why do you hate the veterans?

From Bernie's website, some stuff I think is crazy enough that almost any one thing means I wouldn't vote for him:

Wacky Uncle Bernie wrote:
Opposed NAFTA, CAFTA, permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) with China, the TPP, and other free-trade agreements. These deals kill American jobs by shifting work overseas to nations which fail to provide worker protections and pay extremely low wages.

Quote:
Led the opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.

Quote:
Proposed a national $15 per hour minimum wage.
Introduced a budget amendment to raise the minimum wage.
Introduced the “Workplace Democracy Act” to strengthen the role of unions and the voices of working people on the job.

There was also the thing where suggested a 90% marginal tax rate was reasonable. Basically other than universal health care and his general support of common sense liberal planks like gay marriage and social safety nets, there's not anything to like about him.

I'm pretty sure the dalliance with Bernie here should be taken as a sign among the Democractic leadership of just how much people want someone other than Hillary Clinton to be the Dems candidate this year. They're even willing to embrace a socialist that everyone knows has zero chance of winning even a primary just because it's more fun than supporting the Clinton political machine.

What is it that has changed in America that the idea of taxing marginal income at high rates seems so unreasonable? Is it that the bankers are doing so much more for us than the rich guys of the past that they just deserve to keep more?

My taxable income varies wildly but on average probably it's $2 million a year. Suppose I had to pay half of that in taxes. Would that really be such a tragedy?

Highly effective use of marketing, unlimited use of funds for PACs, Ronald Reagan/supply side bullshit, etc. We've got to let the aristocracy do whatever they want because without them we would have nothing! All bow down to the job creators!
