Hey guys,

I'd like to come up with a list of capital ships for "The Hunted". Since it starts in 7/1943, it seemed to me this should be a (at least) mostly different list than the 10 capital ships in "The Hunters."

So....I am going to have a list of 20 ships. I'd like to ask for help here as I have many more possible ships than that.

To mind: American "Jeep" carriers, the BB's at Normandy, etc.

I will research and probably include those actually hit by U-boats in the last half of the war, but I'd like to hear your thoughts/requests as to what ships should go on this list.

Post away

Greg

How about these for inclusion:
BB Duke of York.
One of either: CV Formidable, CV Furious, CV Indefatigable.
One of either: CVE Nabob, CVE Trumpeter.

All were in action in Arctic in the late years of the war.

Definitely USS Core and USS Card, so the U-boats can have a chance at some payback. USS New York (BB-34) for convoy escort. HMS Rodney and HMS Warspite..

Heya,
OK sounds good so far. I figured somebody would have some favorites.
I think the USS Bogue needs to be in there with the USS Card as well.

Here's the Hunted Capital ship list:

T5 Capital Ship List.

# Class Name Tons Hits to sink
1. BB USS Texas 27,000 5
2. BB* HMS Duke of York 35,000 6
3. CV* HMS Formidable 23,000 5
4. BB HMS Nelson 34,000 6
5. BB HMS Rodney 34,000 6
6. BB HMS Warspite 31,500 6
7. CV* HMS Furious 19,100 5
8. CV* HMS Indefatigable 23,000 5
9. CVE HMS Trumpeter 14,500 5
10. CVE HMS Nabob 9,000 5
11. BB USS Nevada 29,000 5
12. CA* HMS Newfoundland 8,800 5
13. CVE USS Block Island 12,000 5
14. CVE USS Card 7,800 5
15. CVE USS Bogue 7,800 5
16. CVE USS Core 7,800 5
17. CVE USS Santee 12,000 5
18. CA* USS Augusta 9,100 5
19. CA* USS Quincy 13,600 5
20. CA* HMS Belfast 10,000 5

* indicates Fast Target (+1 to hit with torpedoes)

I realize there are many more that COULD be on there, but for simplicity's sake, and the fact it works nicely with a 20 sided die, I think this will suffice nicely. We have the CVEs, BBs, ships that were at Normandy, etc. Good mix. Notice that some take more than 5 hits to sink, and some are "fast." Finally, unlike "Hunters" these ALL confer the Knight's Cross or subsequent award (things got a little more lax on the awarding of the KC later in the war.)

Any requests for changes? If not we'll go with this.

Never mind, was going to suggest the New York again, but just realized her convoy escort duty ended in early '43. List looks good as is.
However, what about expanding the capital ship list for The Hunters? New York and others could definitely make that list..

Heya,

As far as expanding the Hunters list, I know of at least one addon (Bruce from Greenville Mafia, I think did one- or one of those Mafia guys). I think he had like, 100 ships. LOL.

So check the files section here, I think you'll find one already.

A hundred ships! I think I will be able to find 10 from those to add to the originals. Thanks!

EDIT: Did not see anything in the files section for additional capital ships. ???

Hey James,

Dang, I can't find it anymore either. I swear I've seen it. Maybe it was deleted for some reason.

The original concept for the Capital ship list in the Hunters, was I wanted it to be ships that actually WERE sunk by U-boats. And other than the CA, which was only damaged, I think they all were, if I recall.

Having said that, if you're OK with just having ships that WEREN'T necessarily sunk by U-boats, I'm sure you could come up with 10 more. I'd go with British (a bit awkward sinking US ships in 1940) and maybe try for 4 BB, 4 CV, maybe a CVE and a CA. That gives some variability.

In fact I'll post up a second 10 for the Hunters later tonite, give me a chance to do a little research.

OK, thanks I was thinking somehow I just could not see the file. I can think of a few additions already; King George V, Prince of Wales, Warspite. Actually, the USS New York should have been a legitimate target in 1941. The US warships Roosevelt ordered to escort British convoys as far as Iceland were in clear violation of the Neutrality Act. Any neutral ship aiding a belligerent in a war zone was liable to destruction.
Roosevelt hoped that the Germans would do just that, thereby giving him the justification he needed to declare war on Germany.
The Germans would not rise to the bait though. The Reuben James did get sunk, but I imagine if a ship the size of the New York or Texas had been taken out that would have been enough to do it..
