Running a search in the Apple store for "wargame" results in pages of clutter and dozens of games that are precisely not what I'm seeking.

Can someone please direct me to a solid hex-and-counter wargame for the iPad? Is there such a thing?

Thank you!

Take a look at hexwar.com, they have several games that look decent (but I haven't played).

Not sure it is a match in the purest sense of the definition but I suggest Battlelore Command.

For our WWII tactical board game fix, we play Battle Academy 2 on iPad. We can even play against friends using Steam's PC version.

It doesn't use hexes and counters, but the graphics are great as is play. Turn based, asynchronous, multiplayer or solo campaigns.

I'll suggest WarBits, which isn't strictly hex and counter, but is an iOS version of Advance Wars, and is thus extremely satisfying. Supports solo, local, and online play.

There is very little to choose from unfortunately, especially given the wealth of Euro titles available. The HexWar games are fun for a while but they are very "light" and not that satisfying if you are at least quasi-serious.

I second the recommendation for Battle Academy, which is also light but fun and well made, and will add the Shenandoah games which are basically "Ipadized" traditional wargames of high quality.
