Even though Lemonade Stand is a fairly straight-forward game, it can take a bit to grasp the mechanics on your first play, because of the unique way the game works.

To simplify things for first-timers or children, you can play without the dollar cards that have special abilities. Also don't worry about the hand limit that restricts you to only four cards of each currency type. Instead, just focus on having everyone decide how much lemonade to make and signs to purchase, and how much profit they have made depending on the weather and customers that came in.

Obviously this eliminates the interaction that can come from some of the dollar cards (including the more nasty `take that' elements), and turns Lemonade Stand into more of a multi-player solitaire contest to earn the most money under the same weather conditions. But it also simplifies the game slightly, giving players the chance to focus on the main mechanic of the game, which is about measuring up the potential risks/rewards, playing the odds provided by the weatherman's forecast, and the basic math calculations involved with buying/selling.
