On the Facebook page for Firefly (link below) you get to see the front side of Magistrate Higgins' Contact Deck Card.

Looks like Jayne has been a naughty boy!

And also this link shows some of the jobs from the GF9 website:

Indeed.

It seems that the game developers are actively following the voice of the players. Much of what Kalidasa brings are plainly linked to the wishes and ideas of these forums. Now with Higgins higher paying Legal Jobs we got this too. Additionally, He goes all the way to Blue Sun! Seems this expansion ties well with at least Blue Sun. I hope there are more of such cards. This is great.

In the wake of playing my first game with the Esmeralda and Jetwash today (just shy of seven hours game, four players), I can barely wait to take my ships to the far end of the 'verse. And what about the Nav decks!? What are they going to add there. And the Corvette? Tingling to the point of bursting here...... "September" can't come too soon.

This game is awesome still.

Yeah, I hope we have some nice new surprises in the Nav Cards.

Just noticed that you get bonuses now for Key Words (the one shown is for "Transport"). That's quite a nice touch.

You know, if they add several of those profitable Heavy Load cards, we might finally see a good niche for the Walden!

Yup, it desperately needed some more options that make use of its advantages and the Heavy Load one is great since it's unique to the Walden. I really like the Walden as a ship and I'd pick it more if it was not so disadvantaged.

Of course with the 'Verse getting bigger it now means with a stock Range of still only 4 it does negate some of the benefits we are getting with Kalidasa.

This is an easy fix, just get Wash and/or the Xunsu Emergency Ram Jets from the Jetwash ship pack.

It's not as easy as that since all the other ships start with Range 5 or better and Walden needs to farm the right cards from the right deck. Which means starting in the right location and that may not be optimal depending on the Story Card, though Space Bazaar is usually a good choice all round.

The new Set up where you farm a deck as part of starting would be a good way to help the Walden. I think I'll make it a house rule that if anyone uses the Walden with that set up they get to choose the deck to farm.

I was wondering how they would balance higher paying Legal Jobs with no Misbehave risk. Taking a Heavy Load from Red Sun to Blue Sun means burning a lot of fuel while potentially facing lots of Reaver contact. Or you can engage in ... the slave trade. I suddenly understand how people's real life moral scruples can get in the way of doing Immoral or Illegal Jobs in a game, because that's one Immoral Job type I haven't done and don't intend to start.

The Bonus Drop-Off on the Mudder Grab card is interesting: you have to find the cargo yourself, but it's worth $700 each. Working for the Kalidasa Contacts gives you plenty of incentive to get Solid with Harrow too.

The Ram Jets are discarded after one use. The Overcharged Grav Thrusters on Regina are permanent.

Or you can use the extra space on the Walden for salvage, which means you'll be stopping all the time anyway, and you would want Jesse or the fuel-finding Scrapper Pilot. (Or perhaps I shouldn't comment since I don't even have the Walden.)

Walden has a lot of builds to go for, but as I see it you'd have to go for one or the other.

Range: Modded Fuel Catalyzer, Overcharged Grav Thrusters and Wash (Meridian, Regina, Space Bazaar) give any Walden Pilot a chance to Traverse the verse rather well.

Salvage: Mag Grappler Launchers, Onboard Chop Shop, Billy, Jesse, Scrappers and Breaching Tool (Regina, Persephone, Space Bazaar). Add a Merchant or two to the mix and you have yourself a salvaging vessel.

Haulin: Extra Stash, Cargo Space, Pilot, Mechanic, Solid with Harken and some nice stats to deal with breakdowns and you could solidly go for those Heavy Loads or just simply do jobs consistently.

Pirateship: Bandits, Billy, Jesse and Onboard Chop shop, makes for a good piracy option. But as large as the Contact decks have become I find it a little harder to find those jobs.

But as a ship right of the docks this does have a lot of drawbacks compared to just about any other ship. I wonder of it can be a viable option to actually go for Higgins right away to start doing those new legal heavy load jobs. I find Esmeralda and Jetwash to be a better choice both due to my playing style and their capacity in comparison to The Walden. Both of said ships can push for a Heavy Load job with three fuel and go up to Range 7 right off the bat.

Yesterday, I started with Jetwash and Monty on Highgate. Got a few Smuggling jobs for Harrow and a Big Damn Challenge to go with that. Additionally, I picked up the Modded Fuel Catalyzer for crazy. Ended up Hauling some heavy load from Uroboros Belt to Persephone with some extra misbehave for some serious cash. The thing was that I was able to go the distance in one Fly action. Took some time to set up, but I almost always flew the distance in one action which saved me a lot of time, but cost me more fuel.

The new distances given by (revealed) Higgins jobs will be some of the longest hauls in the game, having any ship build have to go more than one action to get there. The question is if Walden will be able to benefit more on the Bonus Drop-offs due to the often (relatively) short range detour.

As for the solid ability with Higgins. It is still rather insignificant but mostly thematic. The effect of +1 active jobs could also benefit Walden pilots across the verse.

This game is awesome!

It is odd, but thematic, that Jayne disclaimer, but then I wonder if it's not just as well - I think that an extra active job will be a huge advantage, mainly because it's passive and constant, while most of the others are situational bonuses, and having an extra benefit written there might actually overpower Higgins. Just occurs to me, too, that Niska is similar in this regard, with more of a warning than a bonus for being Solid.

Interesting, also, that the Blue Sun Job shown has symbols for both Blue Sun AND Kalidasa. So rather than marking what expansions they come from, they're being labelled as what to take out if you're NOT using those expansions... Doesn't matter to me though, it's all going in for one big, awesome game

Yeah, I spotted that too - I think it's the first time we've seen a card that mixes elements from more than one expansion. The skill bonuses seem to be exclusive to actual Breakin' Atmo cards, and the only Piracy jobs have come from P&BH...

I think there is one card in P&BH that only makes sense if you've got BA. It's the wanted card for...i wanna say 'the specialist'. Otherwise I think you're right. I, like others i think, was expecting there to be a smaller expansion later on which would link Blue Sun and Kalidasa together. I guess at this stage they're counting on anyone getting Kalidasa to already have Blue Sun, which is a fair enough assumption I think. Nice that they put both symbols on the card though.
I'm interested in seeing if this means that they will top up Lord Harrow's deck in the Kalidasa expansion.

Blue Sun added some 'Task' jobs and skill-based-pay jobs like Breakin' Atmo, but didn't re-cover the rules for them or use the BA symbol. And obviously it didn't include a Bounty card for the Middleman, so they've been a little patchy with cross-expansion support. Just makes this new move even better.

Nice to see the level of detail they've gone into in explaining what Higgins' jobs are like. Somewhat similar to be "What's the story?" threads about what's thematically at play for some of the existing contacts.

I did notice, but it ain't any smaller at 50 inches long (125cm)... Methinks making my own would still be the best idea as I can then add in other worlds that were missed like Paquin in the Heinlen system which is mentioned in Leaves on the wind as where the crew take Zoe for medical care (plus the 'Harvest as a contact world' add on is a token instead of a sticker).

Or go crazy like me and scale it up to take up an entire wall and add like 40 more planets and triple the grid spaces (see my thread in variants "Need Card Templates HELP PLEASE!!")
