We are thrilled to announce our second year of BryceCon coming up in January!

BryceCon is a board/card/rpg game convention held a mile outside of Bryce Canyon National Park in Southern Utah. This is one of the most scenic areas in the country, which makes BryceCon an ideal destination convention. It's being held January 15-18, which is the MLK weekend, and is only $20 early registration.

Gaming will be a mix of scheduled games and 24 hour open gaming. There will be tournaments with prizes, a raffle, play to win games and more.

Rooms are available at Ruby's Inn, where the convention will take place, or the Bryce Canyon Grand across the street at very low rates (starting at $40 a night). Ruby's also builds an ice skating rink each winter and offers free skate rental to convention attendees, as well as an indoor pool, hot tub, new exercise room and the area is beautiful.. which means if you have non-gaming family bring them along! There's no shortage of things to do.

Volunteer opportunities: We like to have a lot of scheduled games at BryceCon, so there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer just by running your favorite games. Help will also be needed with the game library and registration table. Visit our volunteer page to see how you can get free admission and other goodies.

Please note: this year we will be limiting registration to 250 attendees. Early registration is already open.

For more information, check out our website at www.brycecon.com. We hope to see you there!

It varies a bit. January's not our heaviest month for snow, and this year it was pretty dry. We were actually hoping for it to be colder, as the ice skating was only available through Saturday. There's a bit of driving on 15, which can get dicey if it's snowing and it does snow in the mountains here, but they keep them well plowed, considering it's access to a national park. I'm from California originally, and the only times I've ever worried has been during the time it's actually snowing heavy, or in the middle of the night before the plows have gone out.

We live in Western Colorado not too far from Grand Junction. Pretty much I-70 West for us with just under 6 hour drive. The 18th is a no school day. Hmmm...thinking.

Should definitely give it a shot. We've had people travel from further, and if you've never seen the area, it's something you don't want to miss!

Just a few updates..

We're currently at over 20 scheduled games (there is still 24 hour open gaming), ranging from board games to RPGs and even including a game in design process. If you'd like to sign up to run games, there's still plenty of space. If you're getting ready to kickstart a game, almost have a game completed and could use people willing to play it as part of the process, or just have a favorite game you want to share with people, go for it!

BryceCon takes place in a touristy area of Utah during January. That means there simply aren't as many businesses. On the other hand, each room has a small fridge and microwave. There is a store and a restaurant onsite, you're also welcome to bring your own food and drink.

We have negotiated with the onsite restaurant and anyone wearing a BryceCon badge will be given the employee discount for their meals during the convention. This is 25% off. We're also looking at the possibility of adding new menu items (pizza by the slice, etc), but no confirmation yet on that.

Ruby's builds an ice skating rink each year. Anyone attending the convention will also receive free ice skate rental (weather permitting). There is an indoor pool, hot tub and new exercise room in Ruby's main building. They also offer ski rentals, there are groomed cross country skiing trails, sleigh rides and more (again, weather permitting).

BryceCon is located a mile outside Bryce Canyon National Park, which is beautiful in the winter time. The last day of the convention, MLK day, is typically a free admission day to the park. We're waiting for confirmation on that for 2016. That's a $30 value.

Early admission for BryceCon is still $20 for an adult until December 15th. Remember, we will be limiting attendance to 250 people this year, so register soon, or sign up to run enough games for free admission. Hope to see you there!

We made it through the 24 hour Extra Life gaming marathon, now to shift our attention back to BryceCon. In just over 2 months, we'll be holding it again at Ruby's Inn, right outside Bryce Canyon National Park. 24 hour open gaming for the holiday weekend (Jan 15-18), along with potential outdoor activities, indoor heated pool and hot tub, etc.

We're also currently planning on a speed game design contest, which Game Crafter will be supplying a prize for the winner. Can you design a playable game in 48, or less, hours?

There will be a flea market, no cost to use table space. Would you like a geeklist for that to coordinate some of the sales, or items that will be sold listed ahead of time? Let us know.

Remember, early registration is only $20 per adult and ends Dec 15th, as does signing up to run games (which can get you in free), so register soon!

Just a reminder, we're under a month left for early registration and game submissions. Registration is $20 an adult until Dec 15, then it goes to $30. This is for the whole weekend with scheduled games and 24 hour open gaming.

Speaking of scheduled games, Dec 15th is also the last day to submit games you'll be running, so we can get them onto the schedule and into the convention booklet. Run 9 hours worth and you get free admission. We have a couple of games on the list that are in development (I've played one of them) and we welcome those, so people can get some feedback on their games. So if you have a game design near completion, run it!

We'll open up the signups for scheduled games about 2 weeks before the convention and will post when that happens.

Just be sure to get registered by Dec 15 to save some money, or sign up to run games by then to get in free!

Only 3 days left to take advantage of the $20 early registration price and/or submit games you’ll be running at BryceCon. 9 hours of volunteer time will get you free admission, and that includes time spent running games.

Couple changes from last year.. Room rates are as low as $40 per night, dining in the onsite restaurant – The Cowboy Steakhouse – will be 25% off for BryceCon attendees (must show badge).

We’ll still have the usual free ice skate rental for attendees, indoor pool and hot tub and, of course, 24 hour gaming from Friday afternoon until Monday morning.

Remember, Monday is free admission to Bryce Canyon National Park, so bring your camera and do some sightseeing when you head home. Hope to see you there!
