BryceCon Game Convention Jan 15-18 in Southern Utah www.brycecon.com

My wife and I run a game convention in January called BryceCon.

We didn't create BryceCon out of a desire to make money (trust us, there's not much money to be made in a convention). BryceCon was an evolution of our community game nights and our desire to share the hobby with others, which grew from wanting to help bring families and communities closer together. Soon after we got started, we tossed around the idea of holding a 24-hour gaming marathon to raise money for charity, and while searching the internet we found that a charity that does this already exists. It just needs more caring people who are willing to turn their love of games into support for children with serious to terminal health issues.

So, we at BryceCon have formed a team for Extra Life and will be holding a 24-hour gaming marathon to support the Children's Miracle Network and Utah's Primary Children's Hospital and all the good work that they do for children in our communities. Fundraising is done through the Extra Life webpage and all of the donations go directly to Primary Children's Hospital in Utah. We'll be holding this gaming marathon at Ruby's Inn in Bryce Canyon City, Utah, where BryceCon is normally held. Ruby's Inn has generously donated to us the use of their conference rooms for this cause. This event will take place on starting November 7th 2015 (Extra Life's Game Day 2015) at 8:00am and will continue until November 8th at 8:00am, for a full 24 hours straight of gaming.

There is no cost for participating in the marathon. You can bring your own games, and we will also be bringing the BryceCon game library, and we'll be contacting others who may also contribute. If we can get anything in the way of prizes from game companies, we will be looking into that but the real prize is helping to improve the care and lives of the children for whom we are holding this fundraiser.

Our fundraising goal this year is $3000. If we are able to get only 30 people participating and each of them is sponsored for $100 total, we'll meet that goal easily. Help us out in this cause.

How do you get involved? It's easy!

Follow the link below to the Extra Life webpage.

Register as a participant with Extra Life (there's no fee for this unless you want platinum membership).

During the registration you'll be asked if you'd like to join a team. Our team for this marathon is Mountains of Care.

Between now and November contact people in person through Facebook,
Twitter, etc., and ask them if they will sponsor you on your page at Extra Life.

Spread the word. Let other gamers know about this marathon and ask them to participate. The more people we have on our team, the better chances we have to reach our goal.

Lastly, on November 7th, show up and play 24 hours of games with others at Ruby's Inn in Bryce Canyon City, Utah (if you are not able to be there in person, you can still game wherever you are and have people sponsor you. You can read more about this at the Extra Life website).

Ruby's Inn has offered us a low discounted rate on rooms for the marathon, which is $40 for their outside lodges and $49 for the main lodge. There is a link on our webpage for that. If you could involve your family then that is even better. Otherwise, bring your family out to enjoy the beauty of Bryce Canyon and to help support you during your efforts as well as driving you home afterward.

Are you up to the challenge?

I can tell you that the children this charity benefits are facing some hardcore problems, are you a hardcore enough gamer to help them out?

Please email us if you have any questions regarding this marathon (geekmail or brycegamecon@yahoo.com) and be sure to sign up as a team member for Mountains of Care at the link below.

Moderator, if this needs to be moved, please do so. I put it here since it falls under the category of organizing an event and it's for charity, seemed to fit.

Just wanted to let people know there's still time for joining in on this, but the sooner the better. We need people to join up and we need those people to spread the word and get sponsors!

Also needed to edit the room prices for those who may want to stay overnight, the outer lodges are $40, not $45 as I originally posted.
