Electronic Dice.
All I can find are kits. I am looking for an all in one, self contained device which produces a number from 1 to 6. An electronic substitute for rolling 1d6.

Does have to be in the physical shape of dice? If not, plenty of apps for Android and iOS, freeware and otherwise that can generate random numbers.

Not the physical shape of a die.
I don't want an app. It needs to be self contained.
(I don't have a mobile phone - never mind a smart phone. Don't like them).

Would not want to use a calculator.

Something I can place in the middle of the board. Press a button and have a number appear, big and clear, between 1 and 6. Be nice to have the option to generate other combinations too: 2d6 (not 2-12) etc.

Yes. Like that. But would they do the job? Can I just use one? Do they all interact in some way and reroll and such?

This is going to be a tough order to fill. Standalone electronic devices are rapidly being replaced by phone and tablet apps.

Your best bet might be a portable electronic yahtzee game, they're about $10 on Amazon.com.

Not the pop-o-matic. It would drive me mad - but an electronic version of that.

It's been awhile since I've played yahtzee, but if I recall correctly, gou can choose to reroll individual dice once or.twice during your turn. So, if you just focused on one dice readout at a time, it could probably work for your needs, and you may have to push a few extra buttons to reset each turn, so it's not ideal, and as easy a single dice roll.

Not really what I would want. Just a single item and one buttom to press throughout the game sort of thing.

The problem is its such a limited use and demand ite , nobody will produce it. Rolling a die or dice is simple enough to just do that. Electronic versions ofgames that require die rolls, already have that function built in.

Nearly there with that one. If only it was button operated.

Seems so. But most things do seem possible to get these days.

well its the fact that there are "better" solutions so what your asking for died away...found a few more like what I liked but both long dead. I think the best option is to hire someone to get one of the bazillion kits that are out there and make it for you.

Well I am sure I could make a kit but I doubt it would be as good and not sure I can be arsed.

I got some at Gencon many years ago. You just tapped them and they blinked a new number from 1-6 at random. I don't know where all mine went to by now, lol. But they were kind of fun at the time.

I will preface this with I didn't back this project. But I think what you want is something like this: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1859374170/u-dice-an-un...

I don't know ow if it's any good or if it works as advertised. But, it looks like a nice tool to have in the box. Looks like they are shipping now so you may be able to get one.
