I've been excited to start playing this game but I'm having a hard time following the starting guide. There are 1hour plus play-through videos that don't seem to do the job, or there are reviews of the game with a basic outline. I wish there was a walkthrough video worth watching (or reading).

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you tried using the rules summaries that are in the files section? Sometimes those can be more straightforward.

We are currently working on that. Though it's still about 1/2 weeks out. Check back on www.boardwars.eu for updates on when the first video is released.

Depending on what you are wanting to see, Team Covenant do some superb skirmish videos. The production quality is great and rather than just get the general chatter of two people playing (and often bad quality sound at that) they actually fade down and then the players commentate on the game they have just played! I find it really watchable and they are all no more than 30 minutes

I second Peter - their skirmish videos are good. Start at the beginning, and you can see where they made a mistake in the game, and later recognised it.

Also, search for the thread "Common mistakes when playing". That will help you a lot.

There are not so many rules. Play through the learn to play guide, and the intro skirmish missions. Remember: if you make mistakes, it's OK. A game like this cannot be learned in one sitting. I often have BGG open on a tablet for rules questions.

1.Take the game out, set up the tutorial mission, read through the Learn to Play guide and play the tutorial.
2.Skim through the rules reference guide to see what things you need to reference when you come to it.

For Campaign:
3.Read the What are some crazy or common rule-breaking mistakes your group made whilst learning the game?.
4.Play Aftermath, reference every reserved word and action from the rules reference guide.
5.Read through the rules reference guide.

All of the missions introduce a few new bits of rules. You don't need to learn everything at once.

For Skirmish:
3.Read the Skirmish guide, use the preset command card decks and squads, and just play any of the skirmish missions.

All in all, you will make mistakes in the first play. Don't sweat about it!
