If you have a desire to play El Dorado Canyon with just two people, here is what I have come up with.
Cards to take out if you have them: "Round the Rosie" and "Rifle".
Now set up the game as you normally would, except in this variant you have hired two characters, so go ahead and set up in front of yourself as if you are playing for two players. Two Camp cards, two sets of 3 gold in the un-banked area above each Camp card, and two hired characters next to each Camp card.
When gameplay starts you will pick 1 card from your hand for each character that is in front of you and place it face down next to that character card. You will only have one of each of the starting cards, not two, so your two hired characters can't take the same action. Then all cards are revealed at the same time as normal and the game is played almost exactly the same way.
You can attack/kill your own characters, so try not to do that. Also, when a character is GONE, they will only be GONE for that turn, not for a subsequent turn, like in the 3 player variant.
When one character has 10 infamy or more, the game will end like normal, but each players final score will look a little different. Each player will add up the infamy and BANKED gold of both of their characters and the lower of the two will be their final score, so their final scores will probably be higher than in a standard game.
ps. a thought, you might be able to play this way in a 3 player or 4 player game, it would be interesting and crazy.
