Games for enthusiastic non-euro-gamers.

So looking for ideas for games for peeps who want to play games, GOOD games, but cant handle rules that take more than 5 minutes to explain.
So games we have played so far

Las Vegas
Blokus
Tran America
Hey That's My Fish

All simple games but deceptively deep game play.

Any other recommendations?

El caballero. Puts most other tile laying games to shame, with a very simple rule set.

There's also Go, but that game is more of a commitment than anything. Fascinating though.

The Legends of Andor.
Half a page of rules to read before starting your first game, rest of the rules are introduced on cards while playing, very clever mechanism that prevents having to read through a thick rulebook and still have a deeper game.

For tile-laying, I'd say Lanterns. Also, check out Metropolys, Coloretto, Machi Koro.

I think you should take a look at Veritas: simple rules, no cards and dice. But using the mankala movement players have to control areas to gain points.

The game material is OK (made by CheapAss, 'nuf said), but IMHO a good intro game to non-gamers.

Hanabi 2-4 (or 5?) player game, rules can be explained in a minute, or in 3 comfortably, and the game will hurt your head!

Cheap to boot!

I really enjoyed Monarch at GenCon, and it's coming out soon. There's also a print and play version with no art here on BGG.

Also try Vault Wars (auction mechanic) and Epic Resort (worker placement/deck building), they take very little time to explain but have great gameplay.

San Juan is a great little euro card game with role selection of Multi use cards. Simple to grasp but lots of depth and replay.

Carcassonne - Very simple rules but deep gameplay that requires anticipating the opponent/s move and planning ahead. This is especially true in a two player game. With more it becomes a bit chaotic, and more of a tactical game.

A few to look into here.
4 players is the group- but they require depth not pain. Simple rules and after that just strategy and tactics.
The group had trouble with San Juan( extra complexity from the rules on the card). This should help point where I'm looking at game play.

Having a look at Metropolys, Monarch ,Mykerinos and Portobello Market too. No alliteration intended.

Alien interactions can be quite complex, but if you leave out the flares for the first play, the core mechanic is easy enough to teach in 5.

Cheap copies of Tulipmania 1637 are easy to find, and with only 5 simple actions to choose from per round (2 of which are variations of 2 of the other actions meaning you've only really got 3 basic actions to explain) is easy to teach, yet has a lot of depth.

I should add that the main complains about this game is with the component quality, which isn't great, but I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people have made out.

I would like to add San Juan (second edition), but because of all the different cards and what they do, I doubt that everybody will feel in control after 5 minutes. Fantastic game though.
Same goes for Lords of Vegas, but I guess it could be done if you skip doing examples.

Other great games have been mentioned, but many of them just can't be explained in 5 minutes.

Blueprints Probably the game that is most consistently liked by new people that I teach it to.

Arboretum So pretty, and so deadly.

Atlantis My vote for best introductory strategy game.

Lanterns Much more strategy to this than there might appear.

Diamonds Very strategic on the card play, and you get lots of pretty jewels!

Kingdom Builder Different every time, so you can't play the same strategy from one game to the next.

Cinque Terre Tricky pick-up-and-deliver game with really nice wooden components. May be a little dry for some.
