Vasco da Gama rule book, page 12 wrote:
At the end of the 5th Round...Players can now launch any projects that are still in front of them provided they have the necessary crew, and board a Captain, if they have any. The game then ends. Each Player receives:
1 Victory Point for each 3 Reals in his own supply and
3 Victory Points for every launched Ship with a boarded Captain in
front of him.

So, after the normal navigation phase in the 5th round, where everyone scores their ship bonuses, their coast bonuses (for any completed landings), and after they move their ships up a level (again, only for any completed landings) then players can launch any remaining projects by spending the required crew, correct? This simply means flipping them over to their active side, right? This does not mean sending them out to the board again (doing an expedition action), correct? Then, for any of these launched ships, they score 3 points, as long as they have a captain, right?

The only thing that someone tried to confuse me with was the fact that rule book says, "At the end of the 5th Round...Players can now launch any projects that are still in front of them provided they have the necessary crew..."

But on page 6, it says
Quote:
The Players can decide to launch 1 or more Ships in their possession at any time during the game...

So why the need to specify "at the end of the game" players can launch any remaining ships, if they could do it at anytime? It made it seem like players could then send out their remaining [launched] ships on an expedition to score a lot more points, without having to use the "expedition" action in the 5th round.

The end game scoring ships don't completely follow the rules for how ships normally work. In a sense, this is just a way for you to get a few extra points at the end of the game for your unused stuff, much like how other games give you a few points for your leftover resources, money, etc.

These ships do NOT go on to the board. You essentially just prove that you COULD send them out by showing that you can crew and captain them.

The reason these last minute points specify the end of the game is to allow you to sue any Captains that might have returned to you in the final Navigation phase.

................................................................................................................N*emphasis mine

Yeah, I would probably want to "sue" them too, for getting fired from their ship and sent home.

But yes, I figured as much. Thanks!
