It may help w/ sorting cards but personally I didn't find it necessary. If you're going to do it all the barracks cards (characters, sergeant and chestburster cards) could be one. The drone deck and main alien/objective cards could be another. The strike deck could be its own since those aren't mixed in. IIRC (it's been awhile) the hatchery deck could be its own color (except the chestburster mentioned above) but it might be best just to make it the same as the barracks cards.

The problem is that the cards do get mixed up. Sergeants go into your hand, barracks go into your hand, hatchery go into your hand, some cards from the alien decks go into your hand. Different card backs there, would give the game away as such. I believe your safe with using different backs for the wounds deck and the avatar cards, but I'm not sure its worth it.

I use 4 different colors. For the few cards that would change colors I just keep a few extra sleeves in the box for when they are needed. Thematically it looks cooler imho. Just take a look at the pics I posted of my set I get compliments on the color choices every time I pull it out. True there's no reason aside from it looking cool as the decks rarely intermingle (that is green cards going into black sleeved decks) but just having the hive cards in that great lime green and the barracks in black and the strikes in red just looks AWESOME and quite frankly the card back on these Legendary games BITES!

Already have my sleeves bought for the Predator set so once it arrives I can get it sleeved and to the table ASAP. Predator requires a 5th color though. I went with a more olive green rather than the lime green for the Predator decks though ;P Just about everything else is gonna be the same though.

I use clear for nearly everything as there's a surprising amount of cards that get shuffled into a players deck.

I leave the following in different colored sleeves:

Objectives: Red
Locations: Blue
Strikes: Black

I'm worried that Predator will see me re-sleeving strikes if my imagination is any indication of how they could evolve them.

many thanks everyone

getting coloured sleeves here is a bit difficult. If it doesn't help much in organization or game play, I'll give it a pass.

thanks

I've used Red sleeves for the Strike Deck and Green for the Hatchery and Locations. I like the idea of Black for the Barracks.

That gives away information. Hatchery cards include face huggers that go into your deck. Now you'll know when they're coming up. But if that's how you roll...go for it.

The Facehugger card goes in front of the player and if not killed they die and are replaced with a Chestburster card which does go into the player's deck.

I'll make sure these are in clear sleeves to keep the suspense!

I've just picked this game up and looking forward to an epic evening of sorting ahead of me

I've printed out the card list so hopefully it won't be too painful.

Can I ask what coloured sleeves people are using?
I've seen mention of ultra pro sleeves, but since the cards are 63.5 x 88, aren't the ultra pros either too big (66x91) or too small? (62x89)

Agree. I just put them in Ultra Pro Lime Green. Worked great.

I suggest to the OP to print out some custom dividers, that others have uploaded here. I printed some at FedEx/Kinkos on their card stock. Work great and makes setup and putting them back int he box quick.

I use a color scheme similar to Lord Malachi up there but I reversed the black and green colors. I wrote this in an earlier thread about how I sleeve it and take care of the cards that can switch decks.

Jaster Mereel wrote:
There is another way to go about it.

What I did was make copies of the cards that can switch hands. Then along with the extra blank cards you get, sleeve them in whatever color you are using. I used a color copier but a black and white would work too. You could also just write the name on the blank card (although IMO that way kind of breaks the thematic element of it).

I use four colors.
Blue - locations, objectives & avatars
Red - Strike deck
Green - Any card that goes in player deck; Barracks, chestbursters etc.
Black - Hive & drone decks, alien deck

For example Jonsey. I have the original card sleeved in green which I keep with the objective. The copy is sleeved in black and kept with the hive deck. When I come across the card in the complex, I just swap out the black for the green. I generally keep the original in the place where it would get the most handling, which is usually the player deck.

It is a bit of work initially but I love the way the game looks this way. It feels far more thematic to have this march of black cards coming at you, red strikes, and green barracks. If anybody is interested I could post a picture of what it looks like on the table.

I used the FFG sleeves and I have been very happy with them. As far as the numbers go, I looked up my original order for you. I ordered:
250-black
350-green
50-red
50-blue (I only used half of these but I feel it was worth it to give these cards a distinctive look)

Don't forget there's an Event (or Hazard?) in Alien3 that has you shuffle a couple Facehuggers into the barracks.

I'd like sleeves with the LE 'egg' graphic on them. I'd sleeve the whole game in that, if I was gonna sleeve at all.

Opinion only, but:

Sleeving: Necessary. The card-stock of this game is very poor; the cards you shuffle most (Grunts/specialists) will wear down in no time and be easily identifiable from the backs.

Sleeving 700-ish cards with good quality sleeves will cost you almost as much as the game. Is it worth it? Probably; it's a good game. Do it.

Sleeving in different colours? Not worth the bother. Some folks say it's hard to sort the cards pre- or post-game and speculate that sleeving in different colours might help. It takes me and my non-gamer wife under five minutes to set up, five minutes to put away, (all sleeved in clear Ultra-Pro Deck-Protectors.) Games are 60-ish minutes. Admittedly we only play scenarios matched to the barracks, but that's been fine so far (150+ plays).

My advice (that's what you came for, right?) is: sleeve, and use good quality sleeves. Stick to one colour (or clear) but especially something you know you can buy again in the future. You never know what expansions might be coming along.

I got the game used although it honestly looks sorted but unplayed so the sleeves will cost more. I won a $15 gift certificate from a FLGS and that will cut down the cost. There's no way I'm playing a deck builder without sleeves. I burn through cheaper sleeves even playing Netrunner. Plus, I am so used to shuffling with sleeves it is kind of annoying to shuffle normally. I find card stock in games so terrible that only a couple of games don't terrify me with the concept of riffle shuffling them.

Anyway, thanks.

I suspect it means its played like how I play it; use all the "Alien" characters for the "Alien" scenario. Use all the "Aliens" characters for the "Aliens" scenario. And so on, and so on. It's easier when you can re-use one large barracks deck rather than have to break it down into 4 smaller decks every time you put the game away.

Mind you, this is just speculation that it's what l3mst0r meant, but that's how I took it, because that's what I do as well.

Ah, so perhaps they meant that they only play the movie scenarios instead of mixing them all up like I do.

Yep, that's what I meant. Makes setup/teardown a lot faster.

I use colored sleeves as follows:

Blue = Location cards

Purple = Objective cards

Red = Strike cards

Green = Face Hugger cards from Hatchery

White = Avatar cards

I find it makes set up and tear down easier which is always welcome for me. Also, much less chance of these cards ending up in the wrong deck.

I used green for all the non player decks.

I used red for all the decks where players would generally have cards from that deck. For the couple of scenarios where you would gain a card (say newt), I just had a couple of red sleeves on hand so the player could swap them out. They'd hold onto the green sleeve and be responsible for swapping the sleeve back at end of game.

RED
-Barracks
-Sargents
-Hatchery
-Agendas
-Role cards
-Strikes

Green
-Hive
-Objectives
-Locations
-Secrets revealed
-Avatars
-Drones
