Hello everyone! I'm a member of a creative team that is currently working on a space combat board game. The most basic way to describe the game is that it's a lot like a board game version of Starcraft. You take territory that gives you resources, use those resources to build a fleet of ships, and fight each other. The game uses a hex mat and a fixed number of different "planet" hex tiles that the players take turns setting down. One member of the group has a 3D printer, so our game pieces are taken care of. The big expense we're looking at right now is the game mat/board itself. We've considered multiple options, including vinyl, pre-made mats, buying our own printer and vinyl and printing the mats ourselves, and using foldable game board. The big issue is getting a supplier who will help us keep costs down and the price of the game affordable. So we want the cheapest option we can get for a game board/mat.

Can any of you provide links and recommendations to suppliers of game mats/boards, and raw vinyl material to make mats? We need the mat/board to be fairly large- about 36"x36", with a slight margin of adjustment.

Thank you!

so your shopping for hex tiles right?

There are plenty but those are the two I know and have seen their work, and I think have reasonable prices.

ps how well do you guys know board games? Sorry if I seem arrogant but you get me worried when you say "The most basic way to describe the game is that it's a lot like a board game version of Starcraft." kinda implies you don't know StarCraft: The Board Game which you could have found with a search.

Not hex tiles, the mat the tiles will be placed on.
