I work in Alpharetta and it seems like there are tons of people working in the area and eating lunch around.
I'm thinking that if enough people here eat/work in the area (I'm at Windward Pkwy) we could try to do a lunch time gaming group weekly (or something).

Anyone else interested?

I work near Perimeter Mall, but this sounds like a lot of fun. I would be interested in hauling up GA400 for a long lunch break on an infrequent basis.

What kind of length game would you be interested in playing?
I figure that we could play a few rounds of micro games, or maybe a couple smaller games, or a single larger game (2p Agricola/etc). But that kind of depends on how much time you will have available, it looks like you would have ~30min round trip to get up to the Alpharetta area.

Lunch is pretty flexible for me, so just let me know what works.

I have flexible lunch options, too. Your estimation on travel time sounds about right. I'd be down with any of those game plans. Something that plays 60-90min would be a possibility. Or multiple shorter games. I'd just need to plan ahead more than anything as I ride Marta and work from home on Thursday's.

I'll look into options around the area, are you using Marta to get up to Alpharetta or driving?

Northern most Marta stop does not get anywhere close to Alpharetta. So, I'd plan to drive on days we get together.

How does next Wed (8/26) work for you?
A couple of options I see in the area.
The first is two "local" game stores which would have appropriate table space. Neither has lunch/cafe on site, though both allow food.

Super Games Inc
11060 Alpharetta Hwy #172
Roswell, GA 30076

FCB Sports Cards and Games
9850 Nesbit Ferry Rd #18
Alpharetta, GA 30022

Then the other is to pick a restaurant that has big enough tables. I wouldn't imagine they will care about the time we are there if we order food, since an hour +/- is not a long lunch.

There are lots of food choices in the area (Exit 7 to 11) so if you want to pick something we can go with that.

Let me know what you think.

EDIT: I'm keeping this in the forums rather than GeekMail because other people are welcome to join. Ideally this could be an informal weekly/monthly meeting.

I totally agree. Others should come too!

8/26 works. I like the idea of either FLGS as long as they allow food (lunch!). I've not been to either, so I'm not picky. FCB has something about board games on their site. So, say FCB at 11:30am?

Sounds great, what should we bring for games? I keep my collection updated so just let me know what you think.
I might bring a guy from work also if he is up for it.

I keep my collection pretty up-to-date, too.

Researched several geeklists for 2-player games that could work for more:
- Splendor
- Sushi Go (I've not played this one)
- Agricola (I've played solo and 2 player, but only Family version)
- Castles of Burgundy (This was one someone's geeklist...game length?)

Others (may not be as great with only 2 player?):
- Alhambra (have not played, but have wanted to...not sure of game length)
- Lords of Waterdeep (have not played, but have wanted to...not sure of game length)
- Machi Koro (I recently bought....plays ok with two...3+ is better)
- Tiny Epic Kingdoms (I own, but have not brought to table yet)

Splendor would work for time, with 2p its pretty quick.
Sushi Go is a filler game, really quick, I've never tried it 2p.
Agricola would work but could easily push out based on our turn length.
Castles of Burgundy is good 2p (imo) and could go quick, again turn length will determine the 30-90 min range.
Alhambra has a fake 3rd player to make 2p work, but its still fun.

I've never played LOW 2p, it can run a while with 3 or 4 the way I've seen it.
Never played Machi Koro, but I would like to.
I've got Tiny Epic Galaxies on the way, never played any of them, but they look neat.

I like the list you made, I can just bring all the ones I've got and we can decide? If Machi Koro really loses something with 2p then I'd prefer to play at higher counts to get a better feel for it.

I can't make it up to Alpharetta during lunch but wanted to let you all know that there are some great weekend groups around. My girlfriend and I run a group on even Sundays at the Wasteland in Duluth, and Ward Batty's group meets at Jason's Deli on Lavista on odd Sundays.

Excellent suggestions. I was aware of Well Played and I've seen Ward's name associated with various gatherings. Lunchtime is going to be my niche for now as my family is still a work in progress and hauling a 5yr old to a day/evening of gaming can be a little much.

As I live in McDonough, I have just started playing with the South Metro group, though (SMAUG), once a month: https://www.facebook.com/pages/South-Metro-Atlanta-United-Ga...

My daughter is 7 weeks yesterday, so I'm in a similar position. I've done gaming with groups before, but none of them work in the Alpharetta area.
I've seen people post before about gaming at lunch and I figured I would try to setup a group.

Please feel free to mention this to others that you game with though

APBA Games

Alpharetta, GA 30005

They've been making tabletop sports games since about 1950.

There is an express Windward Parkway bus from the North Springs station. Remarkably fast, since it goes the "wrong way" each time. Think it's the 150. Source: former ADP drone

Yup, I've been to APBA a few times. It's a 20 minute drive from my house, 5 minutes from my office in Alpharetta. I buy their baseball set every year and pick it up in person. John Herson was available to chat a couple times.

The new job is at home, in the Sandy Springs area. Which is also a strangely dead spot for gaming meetups. I may have some ideas in this direction.

Battle and Brew is awesome in many ways, but unfortunately pretty terrible for any board game more complicated than Munchkin. Too much noise and the tables aren't especially well suited.

That's not too far (depending on where in SS), if your new job has flexible lunch hours you should come join us sometime.
