Since no one else has started a thread for this PBF, I get to name it

We're currently in turn 2. This is very much a learning game for (most of) the players involved.

(Borrowed from the other PBF this month which is copied from Neil's introductory email, for anyone interested in following along...)

Optional Rules: as is habitual for our group, we're going to play with both card displays and with rule 4.2f 'Genetic Drift', but without rule 4.2e 'Roadrunner Action'. Remember - only the Lower Display draws from the period decks and triggers the event on the new card being drawn.

I randomised the player colours and turn order in the Set-up log and we have:

1. Andrew --- Red (dino-crocs, 2-teeth) log file names = 1.1 Red, 2.1 Red, etc
2. Marti --- Orange (dog-faced cynodonts, 3-teeth) 1.4 Orange, etc
3. Ricardo --- Green (chisel-lizard diapsid, 4-teeth) 1.3 Green, etc
4. Neil --- White (two-tusker synapsid, 5-teeth) 1.2 Orange, etc

That turn order's also available under the Notes button in-game.

The map on turn 3 after red (me) expands into a new species predating itself.

You can tell... My lizards are overfeeding themselves for sheer depression of knowing that they cannot evolve, like all the other cool guys

At the end of round 3, we're about 6 million years into the Triassic and Red has 22kg bipedal proto-dinos with a good set of slicing teeth (1 AB) feeding on near-identical cousins, Orange has proto-mammal Grabbers with opposable thumbs (2 BI) - with which they're grabbing and killing the mountain population of White's fat-cheeked Facefillers (2 BG) - and Green has just got big enough to wield a tail club (3 A).

Creature names please, Red and Green..!

Mine are the Tailswingers. They are just pacific giant lizards munching leisurely while they wag their heavy tail, much like their sailed Permian ancestors.

I have the Trainee Tiny T-Rexes predating the Tasty Tiny T-Rexes.

Also sorry about that last move Green, but I'd rather leave the marine biomes between us empty for the moment.

I thought each card draw was 10 million years?

That's the basic scale, yes - but the Triassic's 50 million years are quite action-packed with 4 players giving 12 cards in the deck...

No problem at all a game is just that. And it wouldn't be a fair simulation of the natural selection if it wasn't unfair. And I already have another move in mind.

For those who don't know what we are talking about, this is the e-mail I sent to him:

"You could have transformed your bird in that creature you just thrown away You would keep those genes and a creature to explore the adjacent sea and it could stay predating your tiny t-rexes. That was what I was planning, before you claiming it damn, screwed in this game by one turn, again... "

I had to be at least size 2 to do so.

In your position, I strongly consider building a fire-using club tailed lizard

I keep forgetting the size requirements

A lizard of that kind sounds appealing, but it is not that terribly useful in current status quo. I am engineering something different that require several moves, that I hope that I don't get screwed by the last turn, again... shake

My Facefillers fattened up to size 3.. Which means Marti/Orange's grazing grabbers can also grow, if they like.

This will mean they become size 3 and must discard their Opposable Thumbs, though.

Andrew - you can either wait for Marti to confirm which action he'd like to take, and then move/notmove his size meeple as part of your turn, or take your turn without knowing what he's going to do - and let him make the adjustment himself.

At this stage it doesn't make much difference, but there may be situations where the decision needs to be made before the next move is taken.

I'm not going to get to Vassal for a while so I'll describe what I'll do:

Buy the first (turtle) genotype on the upper track and play it so my avian silhouette changes to a 1AA sail back.

Feel free to update my .vlog for me.

Volcanism shifts the CO2 levels to 1600 ppm at the start of turn 8.

I suspect the northern of the two Green animeeples dies due to the flooding of their farmland (without the M roadrunner gene), but I need someone to confirm that.

That's correct - the Green's Tailswingers need M DNA to run a shrimp farm.
