Subject: What is the VP record by special faction ability? rss

I finished a game with some friends and the victory faction (Dwarves) did not get network, but got 48VP only with faction ability.

For sake of curiosity, I would like to know what is the VP record for Dwarve's faction ability and for other simliar races like Halflings, Darklings and Fakirs.

So you mean you got 48 points by using their tunneling ability 12 times? That sounds like a ton. I'm not sure if it's possible to find out what the record is though. I'm not sure that snellman tracks it specifically.

It's 4 points every time you tunnel, so if he got 48 points that should only be 12 tunnels. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Well, whatever the record is, it's pretty sure that it will be dwarves who own it.

Fakirs, probably a max of 9 flights for 36 pts
Witches, definitely a max of 15 for 3 towns.
Ice Maidens. probably 1 round with 1, 2 rounds with 2 and 2 further rounds with 3 is a realistic max for a total of 9 bonuses for 27vp.
Darklings, 13 digs = 26pts perhaps.
Halflings, 14 digs for 14pts perhaps

So you guys have already proven that dwarves are the faction point kings.

Halflings only 14? I am not sure this. See this game. 23 digs. And I think it's not the record.

Your estimates for other factions are rather low. It's what they do in a good game but certainly not maximum.

In my current league game with darklings I could get 34 faction points, not sure if i do it or only take 30 and go for biggest network.

Wow that means you built Ice Maidens SH as early as round 2.
I didn't even suspected this move to be viable.

If I wanted to be greedy I would have tried to built it round 3 at the earliest.
Round 2 looks like a waste of resources.

But if you are not going to play for any network scoring, then that makes sense.

I got a lot of leach but got blocked from connection points.
Was the only way to stay in competition

This is difficult to find out because convert shows both negative points during the game and positive points at the end for converting money back to points.

I would assume that -40 for converting could still lead into good results in some cases.

I don't see how you can win network if the other guy does the obvious, so I guess you'll go for the priest digging. If all goes well, you can actually pull off 36 faction points.

I guess Alchemists would be able to score a lot of points from coins to points conversion if they really try, even if they don't use the conversion to the other direction at all.

If you build 4 TP's and/or SH as early as possible I'm sure you can end up with ~100 coins or so if you stop building anything after TP's and SH are built.

Just take money bonus tiles every turn, take act4 as first action and then pass, after SH and TP's are built.

Maybe a temple with FAV9? The 4pw income from TPs per round doesn't suffice to pay for ACT4 until the end - but then there's hopefully some leech.

No, i need the pw to convert to money. I will build my last tp for sure, it brings 6vp.

I think fav9 temple wouldn't pay itself off very quickly. After all you need a spade, 5 workers and 10 money for it, that's more than what the temple will ever produce.

You can use 12 power from SH to fill your power pool. Then use this power slowly and it will last for the whole game to take act4 every round. Although you probably need some of that power to build those 4 TP's and SH quickly.

I just did a quick 3p game on lodev and my Alchemists ended the game with 104c (which contributed about half of the 111VP). I optimized for coins and not for VP (e.g. I took BON6 with 3c instead of BON7 with 1c). Those initial 12pw are quickly gone for the required spades (1* ACT5, 1*ACT6 - you need to build those TPs somewhere) and I also took ACT3 once. It should be possible to squeeze out a few coins more, but the mountain of coins already got quite impressive. bagbagbagbag

-26 cannot be the maximum here. In this game we have -31 (edit: -34 without resource scoring) points:

Maybe the game is too young or you only analyzed high ranked games (this one was only elo 1100+)?

If the -31 points are really a new alltime record for all Alchemist games that would quite surprise me (as I considered to covert more and there are setups where it would be favorable to convert more).

I certainly didn't check all snellman games so I didn't claim these are world records. As you have guessed I only checked the ca. 150 tournament games of divisions 1+2. As people bring better results, I'll update the list.

Moreover I've scratched the Alchemists - negative records sounded like fun but probably aren't.
