When I first got into using BGG, occasionally, a auction would happen and I would be excited at the prospect of getting a new game at a low price. Now it seems that we have many auctions happening all the time.

5 - What are your good experiences with auctions? Who are the best auction runners?

6 - How about bad experiences? I think it would be bad form to discuss individuals in regards to this question.

For most auctions, after you factor in the cost of shipping the prices don't make much sense, especially for a used game.

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

One of the biggest things I'm looking for is LOCAL PICKUP. That gives me an incentive to bid higher and on more items.

I tend to only look at auctions that show up in my subscription feed.

The most important thing in auctions for me is a clearly stated S&H cost for each item.

Generally, I look at auctions to be baffled by the optimistically high starting prices for games that are already widely available. Although, if I was looking at saving £2 on buying a used game over a new game, BGG auctions would be my first port of call!

It always bothers me when people price their minimum bids really high, then put a BIN a few dollars away.

Example:
Game Name
Starting Bid: $27
BIN: $30

To me it feels like that isn't even an auction, might as well set up a marketplace listing.

I've only participated in auctions as part of the Virtual Flea Market associated with the BGG.CON. One of the attractive features is picking up the games rather than having them shipped.

Most used prices for auctions (or even BGG market) cost more after shipping than walking into a store, so I don't pay much attention.

I think the only auction I've done was a GG auction. I got tired of wanting my avatar and such.

I do GG raffles all the time, but the only auctions I do are charity ones. And since my income has dropped precipitously, I mostly just sigh over those.
