I was able to play this game this weekend with my niece and nephew who are ages 6 and 8. We played without the white dice variant.

This is the very first time I have played anything with my 6 year old niece where she actually played a game from start to finish and actually played by the rules. She previously came close with Candy Land but that bored me to tears. Now with Las Vegas, she didn't make very good decisions and only used 2 criteria: a) Does that card have the most money? b) Can she block her brother? Still, a huge improvement over anything she has played before.

My 8 year old nephew on the other hand was able to make good decisions about where to place his dice. He played the game 2 days in a row. He also enjoyed dealing the money to the casinos. With him, I think we could use the white dice variant next time.

Both kids loved the game, and wanted it to go for more than 4 rounds. It was fun to play with them, groaning about bad rolls, etc. Great gateway!

My 6 year old son also enjoys playing Las Vegas. Other "real" games that he enjoys and will play all the way through are: Cardline: Animals, Zooloretto: The Dice Game, For Sale!, Revolution! (I was very surprised when he took to this one), Tessen (using the turn-based variant described in the forums), and Ingenious.

Nice suggestions. Perhaps, I will try Cardline: Animals with them. Zooloretto: The Dice Game might work too. I have considered trying that before.
