This means the time has come for a long overdue rules update. There are two minor improvements in the new, to-be-published version:
- The number of red stones ("shooters") on the standard 10x10 board has been increased from 5 to 7.
- In the initial set-up phase, shooters can't be orthogonally or diagonally adjacent to each other. This prevents forced claiming of shooters by both players on the first moves, which would eliminate opening variety. With 5 shooters, the first player could only claim a shooter on his first move as a result of bad shooter placement by the second player.
There's also no more reference to "markers". The preferred way of claiming a shooter is now simply to place a stone of the corresponding color on top of it.
Oh, and Black plays first now (as in all my other games).
