THE CAKE IS A LIE !!!

Hello fellow gamers,

I have only recently starting logging the board games I play.
I have a question that I would like to hear the community consensus on.

If I play a game with it's expansion (for example; Catan with the expansion Cities and Knights) how do you believe it should be recorded in your play log?

Thank you kindly for your contributing answer

Poll
A few suggested answers to choose from:
Which do you do?
Just log all details under the base game (add the title of the expansion to the comments box)
Just log all details under the expansion only (surely no one would be foolish enough to believe I think the expansion is a stand alone game)
Log all details under both the base game and the expansion (essentially duplication)
Oh, I guess you didn't know there is a magic way to link the two into one entry. Let me explain in my comment below...
I never log games but I feel the need to add my two cents anyway

I don't put the details in my logging. I just log the plays.

I log the play of the base game and then I put in 0.1 as the number of plays for the expansions. That way if I look at number of total plays, it doesn't show in the total plays (for say that month).

But, if I run a list of all games played it ends up being listed at the end of the list as 0 plays.

I didn't know you could do that.

It's an interesting idea.

I think many people will find that useful.

However, I tend to view my plays in chronological order.
I wonder how it would show up under that setting.

Thanks for your info

I log the plays with the base game (including a comment of the expansions used), and 0 play at each of the expansions for that date (again, with a comment).

Example:
5 plays of Dominion using cards from Seaside and Guilds only (plus 2 other games):
my plays on 2015-06-07

Just as I started logging plays I ran across a reference to the nifty SPLU you can stick up in the Quickbar. Get your base game AND expansions.

I just tried this out.

SO easy to use, and opening through the quickbar link, perfect.

Thanks for letting us know about this great little app.

Looks like it's expansion logging function is a duplication of all logged information with the exception that the play number is listed as 0.1

Not sure if I will use this feature or not. Still deciding on if I will only log under base-game or duplicate.

Glad you found the SPLU, When I saw your thread I was going to link to it myself.

As to logging expansions.. from very early on I logged expansions as a fractional play.. in this case 0.1
The idea behind that is it doesn't affect the overall quantity of games played, so you can look up stats of games played and it will be accurate, but it will list the game in your games played.

SPLU has a setting for that.. you can have no info copied if you like (which is my preference).. and you can save the default play quantity too.. I use 0.1 but you could use 0.01 or possibly even 0.

Thanks, that helps.
I am thinking I will put expansions as 0.1
I am unsure about info duplication still, but I will ensure I include a reference to the expansion in the notes.

I like how you defined the contributing factors to the scoring.
e.g: 39 Grim - 22tab+0VP+17dev6
I had been considering doing this but thought it too much to put in the score entry.
I can't believe I hadn't realised I could just put it in the notes

Thanks for your input Grimwold.

I log under the base game, mention the expansion in my notes, and then if it's my first time using the expansion, I go and log a play of the expansion with date "0000-01-01" so that it doesn't show up in my 'unplayed games' view.
