Wow, those are some scary cards. Tractor Beams seem like they could help Victory IIs get their front arc off more often, and Heavy Turbolasers are just nasty. I'm sure Raiders and Gladiators are excited about slowing down enemy ships as well...

Thematically, I really like how the upgrades fit with the imperial doctrine. I hope the rebels fit their doctrine as well.

Overall, I'm very impressed. Those ISD's are going to be brutal.

The star-ship for this game couldn't come soon enough. I want to have reason to justify bringing more than one to the table... but I think the point and money cost is just too high. Fortunately it looks like you only need one though, and I'll be escorting mine with a couple of VSDs and a healthy number of TIE Interceptors.

I'm looking forward to fielding a few of these or even one with some Glat escorts actually...I'm not super happy with the VSD.

Can you double up on Expanded hanger bays and make an SD 1 a dedicated squadron ship for 120 pts? Throw in a ruthless strategist and call it a day (unless zero squadrons will still be a thing).

Sure you can. You can only have one upgrade with the "modification" trait. Expanded hangar don't have that as far as I can se. It's an "Offensive Retrofit" and the ISD has two icons for that.

Edit - The FAQ adds a line that is not in the RRG restricting you to max one of the same upgrade.

I thought so but don't have the rules handy (read being lazy lol). That opens up some neat options. Not sure how the ISD will play out but initial impressions make it look rightly terrifying and fun to play.

Fleet-Building Restrictions, p.22
This section should include the following bullet point:
“A ship cannot equip more than one copy of the same upgrade card.”

I believe that means no double Expanded Hangar Bays.

Loving the theme with this one! Vader and Devastator as well as Needa with the Avenger. Great job with the thought behind these combos! Bring on the preview for Home One! I thought there was a little balance to the Force?

Avenger with Overload-Pulse... Throw those useless Heavy-Turbolasers off my ship, the enemy never uses defence tokensdevil Oops no, timing on Overlaod Pulse does work in that combo.

Good thing the tractor requires "offensive retrofit" icon. That prevents Cr90 or other small ship swarms from carrying it. I had a horrid vision of 6*Cr90, all with tractors & a swarm of B-Wings to kill the speed-1 enemy fleet.

Tractor Beam will certainly make high-speed Engine Tech Gladiators much less effective... They are probably spamming Nav commands anyways, but will make it more difficult to adjust their speed to their liking.

You can only tractor a target the same size as or smaller than your ship anyway.

I'd be happy to see B-Wings get some more love though. Maybe this will help them out.

Tractors could probably slow one enemy ship to speed-1 allowing B-wings to catch it. I say probably, because an opponent who moves first can move before they activate. Fleets relying on tractors want to be first-player.

Ruthless Strategists: "When attacking you may deal one damage to a friendly squadron engaged with defender..."

Could that include a friendly Y-wing? The Y-wing is "Heavy" so it cannot engage an enemy squadron, but it can be engaged by one. And with 6-hull it can afford to use a few up.

I really hope that card is in more expansions than the ISD, I want at least 4 of them. Now which cheap Imperial squadron has the biggest hull?

Yes, any squadron will work.
Heavy does not meant you do not engage enemy squadrons, it just menas you do not prevent them from moving or attacking ships. RRG P12.
