When I opened the BaM box, I was stunned by the nice components (even tough I already knew what I was getting). But after unfolding the map... Shock! As pretty as it was, it seemed to have an ugly U-shaped spot, that looked as if someone had spilled oil on it. It annoyed me somewhat. Then, I came to the Geek, and found out that the same spot is visible on pictures posted here. On this one, for example:

You can see it in the bottom center. It kinda looks like a trench or a hill. So I guess it's normal, but can anyone explain what it is? Whenever I play, it really rubs me the wrong way. I keep seeing an ugly spill, and well, maybe I'm being anal, but it annoys me to no end (maybe because the game is so beautiful; I can overlook defects in other games, but this one really bugs me). Any ideas?

My favorite 18xx game for six players is two games of 1846 with three players each.

Note the artillery symbols on the approaches on that ridgeline. The mark is so you can tell where they are without squinting.

You're not the first. I had a double take as well, it looks like a greasy stain. I too had to check the geek to confirm I had not spilled anything
