I know that the rules do not require a force to play this and that it could be modelling other assets counter firing on either the artillery or artillery FOs. But it would feel more involved if you had to have artillery to ACT.

Does anyone else have views about this?

At the end of the day I'm happy with it as is...
Indeed for Aircraft CAS I believe that this should also apply to them - to reflect collective ground fire etc that won't be otherwise modelled in the game mechanics.

I suspect that at some point in the game design Counter Fire required an artillery force to act. As that would make the card extremely weak compared to other action cards the designer changed it to require no force card.

I think you are right.

It was a question brought up in play a while ago, but since then hasn't been an issue.
