So, today we were playing, and it so happened that a fight ended up Shekhtur vs Oriana. And a doubt came to us.

Basically, what does Soul Breaker actually forbid or allow? Because it seems, at first glance, that landing that on Oriana is basically the same as killing her, because not being able to ante MP makes all her styles bloody terrible. It says it stops all antes that are "not mandatory". But few UA antes seem to be written as mandatory - even Mikhail has an option to not do so, but his entire game is designed around Seals and he can barely do shit without them. And same with a lot of other characters.

I think you know what it means: unless a character must ante as part of their UA, they can no longer ante. And yes, that cripples Oriana or, even more, Mikhail. So don't let it hit you. It's ridiculously easy to dodge, at priority 3, range 1, no stun guard, and an On Damage effect.

For poor Rukyuk, it is actually a game ender, because he can't hit at all unless he antes ammo.

Even worse is Rukyuk, would couldn't hit at all after being hit by Soul Breaker.

Well, Priority 3 printed on the card doesn't really matter when we're talking Shekhtur. Malice tokens mean it's going to be at least Priority 6, which is more than decent, and is going to go first against the majority of Oriana's options. Needs dodging out of range by burst or dash.

Terrible range at least makes it dodgeable, though. Still, a scary thing to keep in mind.

The Priority of 3 matters because it means that Shekhtur HAS to use it with Tokens, which is a big limiter. If she spends 3 Tokens on it and it whiffs (which is easily done with a Dash and Burst), then it pretty much results in her losing so much.

It's called a finisher for a reason. It's supposed to either end the game or give you enough of an advantage to mount a comeback... if you can hit with it.

Cesar, Iaxus, Kallistar, and Magdelina have mandatory ante effects. Pendros', Iri's, and Clinhyde's UAs have ante effects that are results from previous rounds, though they won't be able to place any more Markers / choose new Forms / activate any more Stims respectively.
