2 Flights in a square with a squadron of bombers. 1 Flight has climbed so has a -1 speed marker. If this flight is not chosen as the Primary combatant when attacking the bombers does the -1 speed count in the combat and negate the +1 the Flight would normally add to the Primary Combatants speed?

The answer is no. :-) Just choose the more effective primary combatant to preserve your boni.

Yes, it's okay to choose the primary combatant with the best overall combat value and relegate the other to support. This way, green or climbing squadrons become spear-carriers.
