Like the title says, I'm wondering what other games are out there. Given that we all post on the same forum, I suspect that we have somewhat similar tastes.

I'll be getting a little soon, and thought I should get another game.

So what do you recommend? I'm specifically thinking of a couple that piqued my interest at my local gaming shop, but have no doubt there are others that exist I haven't even heard of, let alone know they're good.

So what do you recommend?

I'm curious about the following:

Touch of Evil
Game of Thrones
King of Tokyo

Thanks for any input you give me.

Vs System 2PCG: The Marvel Battles
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn
Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game
Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords – Base Set

Are probably my other favorites right now.

I have Touch of Evil, but have only played it once. I need to give it some more tries.

Haven't played the other two, and probably won't. I have too many other games for them to be able to break into the collection.

A lot of recommendations will be entirely dependent upon the players you would have playing with you. From other posts, I understand your housing situation - I know you said nobody there will play Legendary. Is it because of the theme, or because they do not like "fancy" board games in general? If the latter, and you will end up playing solo, then none of the above games will work.

Player count is always something to keep in mind. There are literally tons of fantastic games designed specifically for solo play. Some really quick, others that take hours upon hours.

You also may consider posting this into the Recommendations forum. Some of the guys there are chomping at the bit to give recommendations for games based on just a few tidbits of information.

So once we have a better understanding of the amount of players you would have as well as what they would enjoy playing, we can definitely try to help.

NOTE: I specifically bolded the section above because it is probably the most essential element to playing games with other people. Coercing someone into playing a game that they'll hate is pretty much a sure fire way to ensure that they'll never play a game with you ever again.

Legendary and I are monogamous. Well, I mean my wife plays, so I guess it's a polygamous relationship. And I introduce it to all my friends who then turn around and love it, so I guess we have an open relationship...

My wife wants me to play other games, so I do, but there is no love involved, so it's not cheating.

I think that's about as many puns as I can fit in.

I love A Touch of Evil (including solo play) and I like KoT, but they (and aGoT) are absolutely nothing like Marvel Legendary. None of these four games ever scratch an itch that one of the other ones is capable of scratching.
Legendary: deckbuilder, superheroes
A Touch of Evil: adventure game, gothic horror
King of Tokyo: monsters, "party" game
A Game of Thrones: big "wargame" with lots of politicking.

I'd recommend Eldritch Horror over Touch of Evil. You can solo Eldritch Horror, and it's better designed game overall, IMHO.

King of Tokyo is very light. I got bored with it quickly. King of New York has a little more meat to it. But it depends on who you'll be playing with. King of Tokyo is better for kids and people who don't normally play games.

Game of Thrones: Do you mean the card game or the board game? They are very different. The board game is a big game that takes a long time to play and plays best with 5+ players. The card game is best played with 2 players.

We really like Evolution in our house, but we also play Pandemic and go "Old School" with the 1989 version of Dungeon! (aka The New Dungeon!).

Our newest addition that we've been enjoying lately is Drakon (4th Edition)

I got bored of King of Tokyo and King of New York very swiftly, they've been gathering dust for months now.

As a personal recommendation though : Kill Dr Lucky. I still haven't gotten around to ordering my own copy, but I request it whenever available for a nice combination of strategy, tension and hating the damn dog. Most usefully, despite being a PvP game, I've never had that sensation of inevitably losing - the game tends to end rather suddenly rather than having one or two players build an unassailable lead while everyone else just has to watch them win.

King of Tokyo, Saboteur and Dixit for party games.

Carcassonne for "1 vs 1" (trying for a few years now to reach the World Championship hosted in Essen).

DC Comics Deck Building game and Elder Sign when I am to lazy to setup Legendary and want to play it in bed.

Arkham Horror when I have 2-3 hours to spare and I am in the mood for some flavor.

In my house, we mainly play cooperative games that work for two players.

When we are not playing Legendary, we are generally playing Sentinels of the Multiverse, which is another cooperative superhero game.

Lately, we have also added Shadowrift, which is another cooperative deckbuilder where you need to defend your town against invading monsters.

Going with a comparable game, I enjoy the DC deck builder quite a bit for the simple, quick pick up games of straight up competitive deck building.

Eldritch Horror is a better game mechanically, but I enjoy the crazy b- movie flavor and variety of AToE.

Android: Netrunner mostly with a forray into Tiger Leader and Pathfinder ACG every now and again, but I will be picking up Marvel Vs 2PCG, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, and A Game of Thrones LCG 2nd edition whenever that one comes out.

Mage Knight is the game that got me into the deckbuilding mechanic, and I bought this as a more accessible deckbuilder I could play with friends. So really, I cheat on Mage Knight with Legendary.

A couple of friends of mine made me play that a few months ago, it was fascinating but I fear I'd need to find a proper little club of people who'd take it seriously to make it fun. It appears to have a beautiful balance of immense depth and being vaguely collectable without being a MTG-style cash sink.

I feel silly for not having mentioned who I'd play with! How I could not take that into consideration for what to buy?! Dho!

I mostly play alone. In particular, any fantasy, sci-fi or horror game would be just for me.

I wouldn't even consider finding something for my housemates to play with. If it's something I'm interested in, they wouldn't comprehend it. If it interests them I'm too snobbish to consider it, with the exception of Football. This will seem like a joke, but it's not. The primary interests of my housemates and residents of the primary building (I live in a separate building for four of us) are drugs, pro wrestling and pornography.

But I do get to visit my parents every other weekend, so it would make sense to find something they'd be OK with. It will be very tricky to find something that appeals to them.

My mom isn't keen on fantasy or other Geek stuff, and my dad has no patience at all for it (he somehow thinks the whole genre is childish). This means no horror, sci-fi or superheroes. That said, they're both quite sharp and like games with strategy. My dad's problem-solving skills border on supernatural. While they like strategy, I suspect that neither would be OK with a game taking more than an hour, so Game of Thrones wouldn't be for them, even though my mother adores the books.

If there isn't something that they'd like (and there could well not be) I suspect they'd find Settlers of Catan interesting (an old friend borrowed my copy and lost it).

In that case, based on my games at the moment, I recommend Evolution or Pandemic.

Neither are horror, fantasy, sci-fi or superheroes and both require a level of strategy and planning ahead.

I would say Pandemic is probably our main mistress. If we're not cheating with Pandemic it will usually be because the other half has picked up a new game to try but we keep coming back to Legendary.

Gaming started with Game of Thrones the card game but when we 'found' Pandemic and Legendary it was sidelined. Plus the second edition is coming

Is the Game of Thrones card game a collectible card game? I am absurdly poor and couldn't do anything like that. I was looking forward to getting Game of Thrones board game since my mom might have tried it, but a three to four hour would be too much for us.

I'll look into Eldritch Horror. I don't doubt Pandemic is a good game, but I found that Outbreak movie silly and can't stop thinking about that whenever I see Pandemic at my gaming geek shop, so I'm staying away from it. I'll check out the other game the fellow who asked me who I'll play with mentioned.

Could someone post a link to that Recommendations forum? I'm at my folk's house right now and a google search couldn't find it, probably because their computer is goofy.

I'll definitely pick up Eldritch Horror. Call of Cthulhu is (or at least was) a spectacular role playing game and I feel silly for not remembering there was a similar board game at my shop a few months ago.

I'm out of time to look into Evolution, and am mentioning it here to remind myself to check it out. My folks' computer isn't even letting me save this thread as a text file.

In a manner Thrones is a CCG but not in the same way as Magic and other collectables are. They call it a living card game (LCG) in that you will know exactly what you are buying and you will get the same cards as another person who buys the same expansions as you so no one is chasing after those rare cards. That being said what you choose to have in your deck may differ dramatically from someone else even though they may have the same faction as you.

I think my 'mistress' will be Lord of the Rings also an LCG game that can be played solo.

Outbreak, although that was fictional it does give you pause for thought as there was an outbreak not too long ago and with drug-resistant superbugs on the rise who knows what could happen. So you have to look on the fun side with Pandemic which regardless of whether it is real, you'll have so much fun trying to save the world (or in the case of our last game sacrificing Hong Kong to save London)

If you find the theme silly, you could give Forbidden desert a try. Sort of the same idea in the dynamics of the game, but different theme. Very tense too. We like it a lot
