Qwirkle is the favourite game that my Girlfriend plays at the moment. We manage to play at least three games a week, usually on a Sunday afternoon.

As of this post I have logged 173 games and our poor tiles are looking sorely worn.

We recently filled up the exercise book we use to write the scores in so I though it would be interesting to do a quick analysis of the 148 games this book contains.

Fun with Mathematics!

I think that makes you a loser.

(In more than one sense of the word.)

Wow, harsh. Especially from a fellow frequenter of boardgamegeek.

For me, it does show that tile-drawing games like Qwirkle aren't always the luck fest that a lot of people think they are. Your win/loss ratio is statistically significant enough to show that your GF is playing a strategically better game than you are right now.

Either that or you're letting her win.

Do you have any stats on first-player advantage? How often did the starting player win?

Is there any correlation between these two pieces of information?

Has your win percentage changed at all? Do you win more now or when you started playing?

Thanks for the data!

Fun stats!

I'll pull up mine for kicks:

92 games of Qwirkle
Highest score: 329
Lowest score: 41
Average winning score: 213.54
Lowest winning score: 80
Average duration: 33 minutes
Fastest game: 22 minutes

Number of players:
2-player games: 57
3-player games: 13
4-player games: 11
5-player games: 6
6-player games: 5

Number of times someone new to the game ended up winning: 3 (which is 25% of the time if you only count the 12 games that included at least one new player).

The 41-point low score occurred in a 5-player game while the 329-point high score happened in a 2-player game. To compare apples to apples, I can restrict the data to just 2-player games.

Then...

Lowest score: 70
Highest winning score: 329
Lowest winning score: 122
Average winning score: 259.45

For rivalry's sake, if I further restrict the data to just myself and my husband, we see...

52 plays
kat won 51.92%
Jesse won 48.08%
Highest score: 329
Lowest winning score: 199
Average winning score: 265.33

The 6-point difference between our 2-player games versus 2-player games involving other people shows that we probably play too much Qwirkle :)

Breaking down the 148 games in to equal quarters of 37 games I get the following results:

Wins by my Girlfriend
Games 1-37 : 26 = 70%
Games 38-74 : 22 = 59%
Games 75-111: 24 = 65%
Games 112-148: 21 = 57%

So you could say I am trending as Improving my results.

There seems only a very slight advantage to going first at 52%.
Amended the top post to reflect this.
