The rule book states that you need to pay the extra cost on the Great Project in addition to playing a card of that color. I am wondering if I can use resources for the card and for the Great Project.

Example: Lets say that I have one brick, and the Great project requires a brick and a coin. I just used that brick for my blue card, can I no longer participate in the building of the Great Project because I "no long have any brick," or are they separate?

You need another source, they happen at the same time.

So in your example, no you cannot contribute unless you pay 2 coins to someone else to use their brick.

I do not want to create another forum topic re: Great Projects (GP) so I'm putting my question here as it also concerns the GP.

How do you keep your GP cards protected? Are there any available sleeves in the market for these humongous cards?

I don't protect them, though I sleeve the regular cards.
