I'm a bit confused. Didn't the dhole get released in the original Cthulhu Wars with the Dreamlands map?

Not that I'm complaining, that's a fantastic sculpt!

No mythos expert myself, but I think Sandy explained elsewhere that the Bhole (released as part of the Dreamlands map expansion) is the Dreamlands equivalent of the Dhole that I am guessing is pictured here.

I wrote the first-ever Lovecraft game.
Avatar

Here is the sad story.

In Lovecraft's original text of Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, he named the gigantic never-seen Dreamlands entity which burrows through the Vale of Pnath the "bhole". An editor, for reasons best known to him, changed this word to "dhole". In S. T. Joshi's definitive version of Lovecraft's text, he restored it to "bhole". So, pretty much all the versions of Lovecraft's tale before the 1980s called them "dholes", and this is in fact what I myself knew them as.

Later, in Through the Gates of the Silver Key, Lovecraft describes an alien world ravaged by wormlike burrowing terrors, and he named these "dholes".

Clearly the two are related in some way. In any case, we have two names of similar colossal burrowing entities, though we don't know for sure that the Dreamland bholes are worm-like (because they're never seen).

This doesn't really bother me - as long as the two creatures lool dissimilar enough, and behave different, I see no reason we can't have both. So now the Dhole (from Lovecraft's later writings) is available as part of the Cosmic Terror pack for you to summon.

The Bhole is in the Dreamlands pack, as an enemy which molests players who build gates on the underworld citadels.

If I'm not mistaken the monster in the dreamlands expansion was a "Bhole".
This one looks like it could actually be a Dhole.

Yes. He's basically the greatest playtester that we even have. He's done a lot for us in balancing CW, as well as the future The Gods War game.

...I knew that one day a Cthulhu Wars thread would end up in RSP.

It was a good run.

I could tell you what I think it is. But that would probably get me banned from the forum.

During the campaign the slogan "the bhole is the goal" was thrown around a lot, referring to the final stretch goal of a free Bhole figure.

I took special care to keep this from my SO, otherwise she might think that the KS campaign was for something a little more "spicy" then a board game.

I would take care with throwing around stretch goals and b-holes in the same sentence...

Sadly these were the first and lasting pronunciations that stick in my head. I'm assuming it's more pronounced as "dole" and "bowl"... Knowing this... It changes nothing sadly.

Arthur, you need to hack your Dad's BGG account and unsubscribe him from this thread. Right now.

If we hear his car pulling in the driveway, we are totally scattering. It's all you then.
