In this variant, the players are paired up in teams of two. Basically, you're in cahoots with another character and conspire together to get rid of the old man. This variant gives a more co-op feel to the game, while still retaining the adversarial setup and the pressure to be the ones to succeed first.

This variant is meant for 4 or 6 players, although a 5th of 7th player could be added solo, but they would be at a disadvantage. To balance this, maybe give that player an extra card at the beginning of each turn.

The players must be seated so that no two members of the same team are seated next to each other. So in a 4-player game the seating order would be A-B-A-B, or in a 6-player game A-B-C-A-B-C. (A 5th of 7th player can be seated anywhere.) This is meant to avoid one team having a ton of turns in a row.

Changes to the main game:
- You can attempt to kill Doctor Lucky even if your team mate can see you.
- If you are in the same room with your team mate, you can trade murder weapon cards freely.
- You can show your cards at any time to your team mate, so you can coordinate moves and failures.

Since there will be less opposing players playing failure cards, we decided it's best to leave the spite tokens out of the game in this variant. With them it was way too easy to deplete the opposing team's failure cards. OR, you can play with the Cheapass Games version, where the spite tokens can be spent as failure 1 cards.

Interesting variant, Sami.

You might want to see if it's compatible with the new 19.5th anniversary edition. Those rules are in open beta right now, at:

I just finished printing some review copies of this version, actually, and the Kickstarter for the new edition starts on Oct 13.

Thanks,
