PLAY TEST FEEDBACKS / CONVENTIONS / PRINT and PLAY

Is it possible to test the game before its release?
- Yes in some conventions or with the incoming PnP.

Conventions / Playtest
- October 8th to 11th in Essen booth 7-J113

Play test feedback
- By Khaali at PEL Paris https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1404398/playtest-pel-june

Print and Play (PnP) - in progress
The PnP will be playable solo and coop. It will allow to become familiar with the full game mechanics. It's currently on hold to find the best way to respect the game experience to make it feel the closest to the full game version without the need to print too many cards.

THE 7TH CONTINENT

What's the 7th continent?
The 7 chapters of an "adventurers guide" overview posted by Bruno Sautter one of the game designer, will allow you to learn everything (too much ?, spoiler's alert are advertised when needed) about the game.

- Chapter 1
- Chapter 2
- Chapter 3
- Chapter 4
- Chapter 5
- Chapter 6
- Chapter 7

Why the 7th continent?
Depending the region you live in, you are taught things differently. In France we are taught there are 6 different continents.
The 7th continent in this case, is a fantasy unexplored continent.

How many players can play?
from 1 to 4 players in a solo or cooperative game.

What's the game length?
15 to 20 hours for the base game is a good estimate but it will depend of the number of players and the difficulty level you chose by adding more curses to lift knowing that they plan 3 curses in the base game + 1 per expansion + possible Stretch Goals.

Keep in mind you can stop playing at anytime (after 5 minutes if you'd like) considering they implemented a fast game save.

What are the game modes available?

solo
The game is designed to be played solo. 1 or more player can join you later to continue the game.

Coop
The coop allows 2 to 4 players to go through this adventure together. The players will be able to help each other when located on the same card or they can split to explore more territory.

What's the game replay value?
Serious Poulp has put a lot of work on the replay value. Like in real life, there'll be different ways to deal with the same problem and many choices will be exclusives (if you go left, you won't know what's on right. If you kill a NPC, it will be dead for the rest of the game).
Many numbered cards exist in different version (up to 4 and even more in some cases), this way the player never know what to expect.

The following article will tell you even more. The 7th Continent: The Three C's

Do you need a large table to play?
A table 120cm x 90cm (47 x 35 inches) is recommended, but a smaller table will be fine too.

In some cases, the game will make you reset the map (the cards you laid on the table to make the continent). IIf you must add a card but you don't have the space for it, you have to reset the map.
Reset means you must remove all cards from the map and only let the card your characters are standing on. It also happens when you enter a building, move by a different mean then by foot, etc...

Generally, you'll be free in your choices to move (north, south, east, west) and resetting won't prevent you to come back on your step. You'll just have to go back to the direction you were coming from. In the same manner, when you decide to stop playing, you also reset the map.

How do you save a game?
The backup system allows to stop the game in progress quickly (20 seconds) by tidying the cards with backup cards:
- The last terrain card where the players are located
- The notebook and all the notes you took
- All ideas and the respective state affecting the players.
- The items and their current used level.
- The remaining cards from the action deck (the players health)
- The discard pile of the action deck

When you come back to your game, you put back on the table all theses different cards and continue the game from the terrain card where the group stopped during the last game session.

Can players leave or join a game and how does that work?
Yes they can For this you need to adjust the player hand as follow, by adding ore discarding cards.

Your hand:
1 player, 4 ideas / 4 Bonus max
2 players, 3 ideas / 3 Bonus max
3 players, 2 ideas / 3 Bonus max
4 players, 2 ideas / 2 Bonus max

Your inventory:
1 player, 4 items each made of 4 item cards max
2 players, 3 items each made of 3 item cards max
3 players, 2 items each made of 3 item cards max
4 players, 2 items each made of 2 item cards max

Will the game come with standees for every characters or just the non KS exclusives?
Just the non KS Exclusives.

Re: The 7th continent - Game and KS campaign FAQ - Launch 9/29 3pm EDT
This is almost an auto-back for me. My one worry is that the rules will be seriously ambiguous, requiring pages and pages of FAQ clarification, per map tile, per event, per idea, etc. There seem to be so many options, actions and interactions, that it might take a significant effort to describe things in a clear and consistent manner, especially with the native language of the designers being French. If they manage to pull it off, I'll be happy and impressed.

What's the correct count on expansions? The backing description states base game + 3 expansions, but in the 'cards' section of the FAQ it says 576 cards in the base game but. 4 x 96 cards for expansions.

4 expansions were planned at first but they now plan only 3 expansions.

We might see a 4th one coming as SG, but it's only a guess.

I'll change that

I heard there will be early bird pledges, is that true? if it is, are doing it for a certain amount of time or certain number of pledges.

Sadly for me, I'll be in a meeting for the first hour of the launch so if you do a limited quantity of pledges, I'm sure I'll miss out.

The base game is finished, but I guess they'll need the extra time to work on the expansions.

Keep in mind this is a team of 2, so all cards graphic take time to do.

They are also working with native English speakers. Jamie Johnson who hosts the English TricTrac videos and the BGG interview. Jamie will also be the community manager on KS. So I'm confident the English version of the rules will be fine.

Also keep in mind it works with icons, and if a terrain card doesn't match an icon that is on your item card, you won't be able to use it. I played with 2 other players and it was quite smooth in terms of rules. Also the PnP and the rules will help to assess that.

+1. I *STRONGLY* encourage the project creators not to use Early Bird slots, or if used, to make it for a set period of time such as the first 24 hours.

Same thing with KS Exclusives. You will save yourself a lot of long term grief if you go with something more like a *timed* exclusive - an expansion that backers receive right away, but will not be sold at retail for at least a year or two after the game launches. That's assuming there's a hope for long term retail sales after the KS ends.

Why is there tension? I don't get it. If you care about the discount, just sign up right away when the project goes live. You can always cancel later, it's not like it reduces your options.

Sure, but I still need to be "on the ball" for it, which I don't feel I should need to be. I am at work when the Kickstarter launches and I might not be able to back the game in time to get the early bird.

For me it's not so much the money but the principle.

Either way though, I will be backing the game since it seems great.

OK, well, look at the principle in a different way. Kickstarter projects are very dependent on an early surge of backers, that's how they get momentum and attention. It's a part of how the platform works. If you don't get the $5 discount because you didn't get home from work in time, you still get all of the benefits of that momentum. And, come on, it's $5!

Not sure I agree that they are "very" dependent, but a fast start is certainly helpful. But on that note, Early Bird slots are about the most controversial tool in a creator's toolbox in order to maximize the first day funding.

I only recently found out about 7th Continent, but everything I've read suggests that they have already succeeded in creating the pre-campaign buzz that is even more useful to a fast start than Early Bird slots. When several people are asking "When does this campaign start?" then the creators have already succeeded. There's no need to use an additional tool that turns a lot of people off from the campaign altogether.

Jamey Stegmaier at Stonemaier Games has written about Early Birds, and much like KS Exclusives, he won't use them anymore.

I wouldnt say that folks will necesarily not back due to early birds, but i think it does turn some backers from supportive fans to adverserial consumers. Esp. If someone really did want to be a day one supporter and couldnt get an eb just because they were unable to be there before 3:05 pm on tuesday.

A good relationship with backers seems like something worthy of cultivaring.
