So Kim and I gave Heroscape a try. Quick game... it took more time to set up than it did for us to play. Next time we play the master version and we'll perhaps have a longer game to report.
First game Attack at Dawn. Kim won the die roll and started out with moving her Viking squad towards my Ne Gok Sa. I returned the favour and attacked when within range. I missed. So much for Ne Gok Sa. Died under the blades of the Tarn Vikings. It went downhill from there... fortunately the one going downhill was Kim... the rest of my battle group survived unscathed. Her's went down under the combined assault of the Grimnok and the IZusi Samurai. It was all die rolling... hers was poor and mine was very lucky.
We both enjoyed the game and look forward to trying the Master version. I think the game would have had much more flavour if we'd had a chance to really fight.
The basic game is just that, basic. Even the goung kids that play this game thinkt eh basic game is pointless, and I agree. Its just die rolls, no tactics, no nothing. I started off with the Master rules, and never looked back. Its not confusing in the least.
