Hello!

This is my first post here (at least, I think it is...) and a question to start off.

About me (hidden because it can be skipped):

Spoiler (click to reveal)
I'm an assistant professor at a university in Japan with research interests in games and language learning. I'm currently doing a PhD on the use of virtual worlds as domains for language learning, but I'm also interested in the use of board games, too. As a part of that, I have been toying with the idea of making a card game with the use of language as a key mechanic. early developments involved an MtG style deck builder that saw different elements of language as different card types (adjectives = enchants, nouns = creatures, etc.) but have recently been playing with a JRPG themed game. Which brings me to my question:

Does anyone know of any JRPG-inspired games (theme, mechanics, etc.)? I'm currently working on something that borrows heavily from the genre, and just wondered if there is anything else out there? Specifically, I guess I am looking for games that make a homage to the JRPG battle system as seen in games like Final Fantasy/Chrono Trigger.

There is a card game, Anima: Shadow of Omega, which is an adaptation of the Anima RPG, a european-japanese collaboration which in style borrows some JRPG/anime tropes.

The game itself is ok, just be sure to play with the Crisis rules (otherwise it tends to drag on).

EDIT : woops
