So what gear do you feel you need before you try the L2 lion? And how exactly do you deal with cunning?

The problem I see is this. His turn starts. He draws a card and walks over and punches someone. He immediately then ends his turn, grabs them, knocks them down and runs off really far away to eat them.

There isn't really a way to stop the grab. If you dash the initial attack then he just stands there and sniffs and everyone else could run in and attack I suppose. But then next turn he is definitely going to hit someone and drag them far enough away that no one will get to attack unless the drug guy gets an encourage. Now he is going to drag that guy around and eat him for a couple turns without anyone easily catching up to attack.

Everyone could get bone darts but that seems unlikely to really cause wounds reliably as you chase the lion around the board.

Best case you are down one guy and a free 2 damage hit every round. Commonly since he drags them off many turns you wont really be attacking at all. How exactly do you deal with this? You can't just dash to close over and over...you will run out of survival (that you might need to save your life).

You can dash when he is using Cunning.
There is a flow between when he extends his claws and when he actually runs off with you, dash out of range of then.

Also, make sure you are sufficiently geared. For example 2 survivors with frenzy drink, zanbato's, and monster necklace (with affinities completed) will essentially burn right through him. Have a harp with a ranged survivor and it becomes rather easy.

Try for a cat's eye circlet and try to crit the HL that is persistent for avoiding grab.

What's everyone's opinion on Armor/Protection before starting level 2's? Our settlement is doing ok with weapons and offense, but our supplies of armor kind of fail to go around.

We lucked into a +3 evasion while not armored Immortal who we've been leaning on pretty heavily as a tank, but her insanity is running low.

We're looking to go up to 2's because of the high raw material cost of better gear, but going early and losing a year could be a big hit.

Is it a waste of time to worry about taking hits and we should just go full offense?

Yeah but target is selected after the flow...that doesn't seem sustainable if everyone is around him . I suppose you can get lucky and have him move as a reaction to someone hitting/missing/etc.

I find a ranged attack (or spear in a pinch) and dash are basically necessary.
