We are seriously looking at getting this one, however it is usually just the two of us. I have heard that this is best with two players. Is this the case?

Best with 2. I can't recall the last time I played with more players.

It is easily best with two. Play with 4 and you will want to hurt yourself.

I've played 2p and 3p, both are very good. 2p is my primary player count and it works just fine. Enjoy!
Keep playing...

One of the best 2 player games we own. My wife loves it.

I can't really imagine wanting to play with more than two.

I think 4 player is fine so long as everyone knows the cards really well.

I think we're in a minority but I feel like standing up with you! Rock on with the 4 player.
That said 2 players is certainly the better way to play.

I'm okay with all counts. I mostly play at two or three, but I can't remember any problems from playing at four players.

The 3-player is my favourite, but 2-player is very good as well. Mostly due to the drafting part, I think.

My son and I usually play two-player. Now and then we add a third. Four gets chaotic.

Problems with four:
* Game length * Game management * Awareness of other player's tableaus * Overall greater chaos
YMMV.
