This will probably have occurred to a lot of players but here is a valuable 'training mission' variant that sets Thunderbirds apart from Leacock's other co-operative games.

Set-up
Place the disaster markers in the FAB card discard space and keep the right hand side of the board clear. You actually need those markers for this.

FAB cards
When a FAB card is drawn place it face up on the right of the board and working down or up (which-ever seems most logical to you). When the FAB card is used mark it with a disaster marker.

Schemes and Events
Turn these over as normal but when foiled or resolved do not remove them from the line. Instead place a disaster marker on them to show they are no longer in play.

Disaster Cards
When a disaster is prevented if it is the right-most card then place it in the discard pile. If it is not yet the right most card turn it face down to indicate it is no longer present. If a card is moved backwards into that space it goes on top. If a hood card is drawn place it face down under the first disaster card. Once face down cards are the right-most cards they can be moved (from right to left) to the discard pile.

Reset
If you foil the Hood's scheme then all is well and good. If not then simply reset the deck - turn events and schemes face down, return the FAB cards to the deck in order, return any events still on the track to the deck (left to right) and then turn over the discard pile and return it to the deck.
Reset vehicle and pod positions and you now have exactly the same game from the start - were you unlucky? did you make a mistake? Well this way you can find out.

Nice idea to backtrack progress to make sure you actually one a game and know why you did win it and why some steps made you lose.
